Tea Room the Eighteenth - the Cricket Pavilion

Welcome one and all to our new abode - a lovely old-fashioned Cricket Pavilion, with decks outdoors and a rather lovely Members' Bar, complete with deep-seated leather comfy chairs and any drink you care to mention.

Our outdoor amenities include the well-tended cricket pitch, kept immaculate by Mellors, our multi-purpose man; a couple of tennis courts round the back for those who prefer the Wimbledon scene; and another multi-purpose pitch (can be used for hosting Fine Lad-style rugby matches, or Little Kickers' football, or the occasional All Comers' Lacrosse Tournament.

Bishops abound, mostly snoozing in the leather armchairs; there are sundry animals around - guineapigs and bison mostly - and of course the Naked Mohawk Babies, fetchingly attired in cricket whites (most unusual for them!)

The cricket pavilion tea room is open to all - those with only one child who need a safe haven predominate but having more than one child is fine - come in, have an egg'n'cress sandwich and a glass of Pimms!

*other fillings and beverages also available.

Sorry I've been 'away' for the week - and come back to people in varying states of OK ness....

CMot - at least they've got a bit of an answer to why its been so bad for you - hopefully answers won't be so long in coming now. (How's the car going?)

JBM - when mistlechick started nursery at school, one little lad had to be prised off his mother and she had to leave rapidly to heartwrenching cries... but you wouldn't beleive that now. I hope things start to improve soon.

Smallbunch - sorry your mojo seems to have become lost - is there anything we can help with?

Thumb - hope you're both feeling better soon. I found a syringe really useful for medcine when mistlechick was little - are you using something similar? Did I say that the other day he asked me 'I know that calpol stops it hurting mummy, but why does it?' which left me a bit Shock and I had to go and find someone that could explain to me in a straightforward way....

Mary - glad things are generally looking up - have you had any feedback yet?

Amber - thinking of you both

amberlight · 15/10/2010 17:08

Home for a while. Operation hasn't been straightforward. Some very scary hours. They think he'll be OK now, but keeping him monitored.
So tired...just so tired...

3thumbedwitch · 15/10/2010 17:24

(((((hugs))))) for amber and amberfamily. Got everything crossed for you that he is ok.

MT - I don't have a syringe, no - in fact I think that's what started the problem - up until monday this week he has always taken his medicine, no problem but while at the hospital they gave me some in a syringe for him and he's been a bit of a nightmare with it ever since.
Best of luck explaining how calpol works - I was looking it up myself earlier today as I don't know - and it seems that no one is that sure exactly how it works! It just does...

I should be in bed of course - but am insomniac, partly because of miniThumb's snuffling.

Praying Amber...

No blood test results as yet - have a Drs appt on Tuesday though. We didn't go to a restaurant in the end, I cancelled. It would have been a pub meal anyhow, so could have been tricky!

Feeling a bit argh, as DS came home with scratches/gouge marks on his neck from the primary school disco! Have taken a photo and forwarded it to the headteacher for her to investigate...

MaryBS · 15/10/2010 18:55

Oh, and haven't tried oats again since, wanted to get settled first before trying stuff...

Scout19075 · 15/10/2010 19:54

Amber, prayers and (virtual) hands for you to hold.

How are you, MT?

Mary, has DS gone back to Scouts this term? How are things going there?

3thumb, by syringe do you mean one of those squirters that come in the medicine box? BabyScout uses that, or a spoon, but I always wondered why he tries to suck the medicine out but won't suck on a straw.....

Small.... oh Small.... Where are you?

Went to the clinic today. Patient ahead of me was a convict -- police officers, chain, cuffs, the works. BabyScout seemed fascinated by the cuffs. Must admit, I was a bit, too, since I hadn't seen ones like his before. Blush I'm so embarrassed. Headaches normal, which I knew but what I didn't know was migraine strength ones are, too. Blurgh. I'm to keep track of it, if it gets worse, shooting/extreme pain, blindless or vomitting I'm to go get seen (scans included). Nice. Thanks for that. Am also to go if I get worried/nervous/concerned about it. Have my next appointment the day before we leave for the States. Doctor very nice and insisted I had the first appointment of the day. Clinic always seems to run about an hour behind, the pharmacy and plebology gets backed up (average three hours a visit) and she said she didn't want to put me and BabyScout through it. Said she has a ten month old at home and knew what it was like so wanted to make sure we could get in and out quickly. Was very nice to have someone that understood.

Anyone fancy a cocktail or a warm beverage?

(I could suddenly go for a Taco Hell, which I haven't had in YEARS and there's a reason why it's Taco Hell....)

UniS · 15/10/2010 20:08

Taco hell??? is this a food stuff?

Scout19075 · 15/10/2010 20:18

The chain is called Taco Bell. But people refer to it as Taco Hell as it tends to make people a bit, ahem, windy or queasy or whatever.

UniS · 15/10/2010 20:25

ohhhhh, them, I see. I did have a "meal" there once, but only once. was part of my quest to try lots of "classic" American food on my last trip. 8 years ago.

Also tried - clam chowder, twinkies ( bleurgh), tootsie rolls, cherry pie, pancakes and bacon and several varieties of root beer. Along with some VVVV sugary breakfast cereals.

Scout19075 · 15/10/2010 20:31

Mmmm, root beer. I love root beer. MrScout was working in MK in February and for Valentine's Day went to the American shop and bought me a case of root beer. So very nice. Tootsie rolls are lovely (have some here now). I love pizza from home, pizza in New York City, pizza in Chicago and cheesesteaks from home. Oh, and breakfast at Perkins.

I'm sooooo hungry!

CMOTdibbler · 15/10/2010 20:32

If you go down to Essex Scout, you can go to the Bell in Lakeside (two hells in one)

UniS, thank you sooo much for my lovely, lovely parcel. You knitting fits perfectly, tiddler is looking forward to baking, and I love the book !

Scout19075 · 15/10/2010 20:34

Don't even like them, so not sure where the desire for one came from!

UniS · 15/10/2010 20:48

any one for a slice of toffee apple cake? made some today. was going to freeze both, but after builder friend had had a can of paint roll away from him down our roof and land with large splat on lawn... I thought he needed a slice with his cuppa after he'd cleaned up the stripe of paint down the roof.

CMOT Hurrah, I'm soooo glad the knitting fitted, slightly too tight for me. I was wondering if I'd guessed correctly.
figured that as Boy and I like baking together, you 2 might too.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 15/10/2010 21:35

JM, at the risk of contradicting what everyone else says, does he have to go to daycare? Serious question - maybe there is an alternative.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 15/10/2010 22:23

Mistle, feeling very guilty about parcels. Yours is coming, but life is just so hectic and now I haven't had a phone for weeks, which makes life so much more long winded and complicated ... other people are just far more organised than I am. But I am enjoying thinking about it and making it. Wriggle is helping, which is slowing it down even further.

UniS · 15/10/2010 23:03

Unis rustles up another plate of twiglet surprise... well, you never know when one might be needed.

posts it to amber. and a GF version to Mary.

Then makes another one and leaves it just close enough to teh priest hole to be in grabbing reach.

Scout19075 · 16/10/2010 08:18

I am so tired I could cry. My head is pounding. And I am pissed off. Ninety minutes of sleep is not enough!

amberlight · 16/10/2010 09:24

No, it certainly isn't enough sleep.

Hubby's operation went wrong, for those not following this on facebook or the prayer chain here. He needs another one. Not quite sure what the extra risks of another brain bleed are from repeated operations, but they're pretty high. I need a hug. Or something.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 16/10/2010 12:35
3thumbedwitch · 16/10/2010 12:40

more {{{{hugs}}}} (special curly ones) for amber and your family. And a book of fractals (unless you have problems with repeating patterns like that, or things with holes in, in which case it isn't a book of fractals at all but a handbook for dismantling the Eiffel Tower)

Have you seen there is an online petition thread to get the risible sentence for those 3 thugs in Manchester reviewed? It's here if anyone hasn't seen it yet.

The Thumb household is improving - only needed one calprofen dose today and miniT is sleeping without all the snorting and grumphling now. I can eat again, including chocolate (it's been nearly a whole week!!) but not very much.
Am still utterly unimpressed that, despite illness, no food and gastrointestinal disturbances, I am only 2-3lb lighter than I was at the start of the week Angry.

3thumbedwitch · 16/10/2010 12:41

Whoops - sorry Scout - missed yours! Go back to bed. Have you any chamomile tea? Whilst it is utterly vile, it does have calming, anti-headache and slight sleep-inducing qualities (if you can stomach it).

MaryBS · 16/10/2010 12:58

Hugs and prayers Amber.

Off to Cathedral now, for big church service...

amberlight · 16/10/2010 13:13

Thumb, yup, signed that a few days ago, with a very strongly worded memo attached to it about the hopelessness of being a ruddy Government adviser and advising the Crown Prosecution Service etc etc.... and then living in a world where we can be tortured for three sodding days and not even worth a day in jail for the lads. Angry

3thumbedwitch · 16/10/2010 13:23

I love fractals... they are so beautiful.

amber - I hope they take some flippin' notice, I really do! I cannot believe that anyone in their right minds thinks their sentence was fair. The judge thought the fact they pleaded guilty showed contrition - no it bloody didn't, it showed that they knew they were busted because of the video evidence!! Fah!
