Tea Room the Eighteenth - the Cricket Pavilion

Welcome one and all to our new abode - a lovely old-fashioned Cricket Pavilion, with decks outdoors and a rather lovely Members' Bar, complete with deep-seated leather comfy chairs and any drink you care to mention.

Our outdoor amenities include the well-tended cricket pitch, kept immaculate by Mellors, our multi-purpose man; a couple of tennis courts round the back for those who prefer the Wimbledon scene; and another multi-purpose pitch (can be used for hosting Fine Lad-style rugby matches, or Little Kickers' football, or the occasional All Comers' Lacrosse Tournament.

Bishops abound, mostly snoozing in the leather armchairs; there are sundry animals around - guineapigs and bison mostly - and of course the Naked Mohawk Babies, fetchingly attired in cricket whites (most unusual for them!)

The cricket pavilion tea room is open to all - those with only one child who need a safe haven predominate but having more than one child is fine - come in, have an egg'n'cress sandwich and a glass of Pimms!

*other fillings and beverages also available.

Have just sent apologies for a meeting being held on Thanksgiving. Grin

UniS · 13/10/2010 22:06

shall I do washing up then rejoin you. bags a hand thrown by potters mug of that choc.

JBsMonsterMummy · 14/10/2010 03:03

Scout, I so know what you mean about having a real, meaningful conversation with someone. That's what I mean when I recently posted about not missing the ex-friend herself, but missing having someone who I can really talk to.

Have been glued to the Beeb (much better than CNN, sorry Scoutie :o) or BBC.com and watching the miners' rescue all day. It really made me think. What they've endured!! Nothing I consider stressful in my life even comes close.

HEY SMALL!!! [shouting on purpose] What's up, honey????? Come talk. I miss you. Can we help?????

Scout19075 · 14/10/2010 10:49

It was really nice yesterday having someone ask "So, how are you REALLY" rather than the casual "You alright?" when you walk into a baby group or at the shops.

Think I'll be in the big smoke on the 5th. Doing a volunteer thing through MrScout's work in the afternoon but am going to go down in the morning and do a bit of wandering around. Anyone who's local down there know if/when Hamley's Santa Grotto opens? I was on their site the other day and couldn't find ay information. Since BabyScout is coming along with me I figure I should do at least one thing he might enjoy. Haha.

JB, your package is almost done. WAHOO!

3thumbedwitch · 14/10/2010 12:05

Actually, it would be nice to want some hot chocolate - I've been off food since Monday. Can't even face chocolate - that's when I know it's bad! Grin

Can't wait for this bloody virus to be over - poor miniThumb is still feverish on and off and it's just a nightmare to see his poor little puffy face - he can barely open his eyes at times! Bloody virus. Still, should be getting better tomorrow, apparently (paed consultant friend of MIL's thinks it's a virus that lasts about 5 days).

MrThumb has transgressed again - I was trying to give miniThumb his meds at the tea table (ok, not that bright but still) and he first did nothing, then when asked, held him for me but not properly, then let him go because he "couldn't hold him" - and then proceeded to criticise me for "not knowing what you're doing", "let him calm down for God's sake", "he's tired, it's the wrong time" - FFS! I have been dosing the poor little boy for the last 4 days, at least 3 times a day, on my own (apart from once when MIL helped out) - and he thinks he has some kind of right to tell me I don't know what I'm doing??? I have to dose him at 4am - he's bloody tired then, but it still has to be done! I am still fuming about it.

Tea, Small - have some manly pats on the shoulder and a stiff drink to get you throught the "misery".

Scout - glad you had a nice lunch.

MaryBS · 14/10/2010 13:30

:( Thumbwitch, get better soon, and minithumb too

I was poorly again yesterday afternoon, but feeling mostly better again today. Knocked me for 6 though, especially as things had been going SO well!

I made myself a gluten free apple and raspberry crumble yesterday which is yummy. I had some of it for breakfast! Not really enjoying the GF breakfast choices, so it made sense to me!

CMOTdibbler · 14/10/2010 13:37

I often have pudding for breakfast Mary. Have you tried toasted gf hot cross buns ?

MaryBS · 14/10/2010 13:46

Nope, not seen any of those yet. Saw some GF crumpets though. Wasn't that keen on the GF rolls, a bit tasteless, and texture was odd (I am texture-phobic)

3thumbedwitch · 14/10/2010 13:50

GLad you're feeling better generally, Mary, shame about the blip yesterday afternoon.
Apple and raspberry crumble sounds fab, or it would if I had any appetite! The only thing that seems not to bother me is crisps -can't stomach the thought of anything else! How odd. But Mr and miniT had a chinese takeaway tonight and I tried a prawn cracker - one bite and that was enough.

The really really annoying thing about it is that in 4 days I have lost nothing weightwise. You'd think I might have lost a pound or two, despite being on what is essentially a starvation diet, but apparently not!Hmm

Scout19075 · 14/10/2010 18:38

AIBU to want to slap the girl on "16 and Pregnant"? More importantly, why the heck am I watching this?!?!

MaryBS · 14/10/2010 18:52

YANBU, but she might slap you back!

Scout19075 · 14/10/2010 18:56

I think I could take her, Mary. I keep reminding myself she's a teenager and was pregnant/just gave birth and her hormones are insane (between teenage ones and pregnancy ones, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near her). But it's her sense of entitlement that really just gets to me. Grrr.

Seriously, why am I STILL watching this?!?!

MrScout messaged and asked if he could be late, so I'm having an "early" lonely dinner. Anyone care for some pasta?

CMOTdibbler · 14/10/2010 20:04

Don't watch it Scout. Its not good for your mental health.

I had fractured my radial head - but only a crack that they wouldn't/couldn't have done anything different for.
Have had the most blissful time rubbing rosehip (and others, its a scar reductin aromatherapy blend) oil into my arm, and picking the dry skin off.

Will be having nerve conduction tests soon to try and track what is going on with the nerves

The rolls can have weird textures and smells Mary. I recommend the english muffins (20s in microwave then toasted lightly when nyou need a roll

Scout19075 · 14/10/2010 20:51

Wiff Waff, wiff waff, Wiff Waff, Wiffle Waffle, wiffle waffle

I'm trying to make sure this isn't in the summary bit....

Hopefully it's not now.

I would just like to apologize for the rant I've just had on the other site. I should probably go and delete it, but I'm fired up again and writing helped me feel better.

If I didn't love the girlies so much I'd throw up the biggest stink and say to hell with what any of them think of me. However, I don't want to have a reputation of being difficult as it could (though shouldn't!) impact directly onto my units.

Scout19075 · 14/10/2010 20:59

How are you feeling tonight, Mary and 3thumbed?

BTW, loving the new look, 3thumbed. Keep forgetting to tell you that.

Lots of thoughts and prayers for you and your DH, amber.

CMOT -- Ouch!

Anyone fancy a warm drink?

MaryBS · 14/10/2010 21:50

Feeling better tonight.

Thanks for tip on muffins CMOT, not that I've seen any for sale as yet - Waitrose had crumpets, not muffins. Tesco might have some I guess, although I didn't see any. Am really enjoying my crumble though! :). Hope you get your pains/nerves sorted soon!

Dunno about a hot drink, I fancy something alcoholic...

UniS · 14/10/2010 22:48

more mulled wine mary?? and anyone else. I honestly only had one pint of not very strong beer tonight and I still managed to fall over my bike in pub car park and have whopping bruised shin to prove it. Blerrrgh.

BUT a good night otherwise. Our village will be getting a skate park ( subject to planning permission) hurrah, AND 8 teenage lad showed up for the design meeting AND we had a design submitted that is in budget. THEN I went off to preschool committee and got the task I wanted for teh Christmas bazaar ( balloon hats) and my other suggestion was accepted and someone offered to man it. ( temporary tattoos) .

Unis goes off to lob a few balls down to Amber, and let Mellors take his place behind teh stumps.

JBsMonsterMummy · 14/10/2010 23:34

OMG what a day :(

No time to elaborate, will later, but JB is having a horrible time settling in at daycare (nursery?). Cried all day yesterday and today.

Shit.

MaryBS · 15/10/2010 08:37

Poor minithumb :(

Yes, I've tried the GF pasta, and it was a success, the family kept nicking bits! (they're eating up whats left of the other stuff atm). I tell you one thing though, if you stand on an uncooked piece, it makes an almighty crunch when it shatters!

I've been invited out to lunch today, but I really don't fancy it, especially picking through a minefield of what I can and can't eat in a restaurant I've never been to. I need a good excuse to cry off...

Scout19075 · 15/10/2010 09:17

I'm going home!
I'm going home!
I'M GOING HOME!

Oh, did I say, I'm going home?! Flights booked for Thanksgiving. Two weeks of food that I miss (cuz you just can't get it here or it's not the same), friends and family, people who sound like me, good shopping and, most importantly, Mom-Cuddles for me and Grandmom-Cuddles for BabyScout.

I'm going home!!!

3thumbedwitch · 15/10/2010 11:32

Yay Scout!! Hurrah for going home, so pleased for you.

I had a bizarre dream earlier in the week that I was going back to the UK again in November - chances of that happening are next to none (barring some dreadfully traumatic happening that is, I hope, extremely unlikely) - but I woke up wishing I was. MiniThumb asks about every other day if we can "go on an aeroplane" - he must have enjoyed the flights! Shock

Things improving slowly here - miniT still coughing, still snotty but less so, but his temp is still spiking whenever his tummy hurts. :( Still refusing to take meds easily - has it in ginger ale during the day but night time I can't do that => trauma.

Mary - some restaurants are quite good at having and labelling GF choices on their menus. Zizzi's does, for example (which entertains me, as it's a pizza/pasta joint! but good for them anyway) Glad the GF pasta is going down better than the bread stuffs and cereals.
Have you worked out whether or not you have ishoos with oats yet or not?
