DS has been at nursery for 2 days a week for the last 5 months so that's fine just to let you know.

But my mum has just pointed out that as he's 3 in June he may eligable for a free place in August. It hadn't even crossed my mind as for some reason I thought it was next year

Does anyone in Scotland, Highlands know when you enrol for free places?

your nursery should give you a form to complete. If your DS is three in June he will be eligible from August.
I haven;t been able to find any info on the web about this as I looked for it when my DS was turning three in June 2008.

If your DS is in for two days a week that would be four sessions so you should be refunded for four 2.5 hour sessions a week per term. My DS is in for over five sessions and I got a cheque in September to cover the term August - December. Another one must be due soon.

If you want your DS to go to a pre-school nursery rather than to use the money at your private nursery you will need to find a nursery in your area and enrol him there, sorry wasn't sure if that was what you meant!

Re their 2.5 hours per day place - At our nursery you can put them on a waiting list as soon as they turn 2. You do this directly with your chosen nursery and if you want you can apply to more than one nursery. There are not enough places for all 3 and 4 yr olds here so you are not guarunteed a place until thier pre school year. The last area I was in (E.Dunbartonshire) you applied to the council offices on one form in January for the following August and put your first three choices of nursery down. There were plenty of places available there.
So, I guess it depends on your council policy - I would check out their web site for info.

PS. this is my forst mumsnet post. Hello everyone!

u should get a letter from ur nursery telling u where to enrol him i got mine today i am in north ayrshire ours is 26th to 31st january for regestration

What area are you in? I'm in Edinburgh and we dont get letters - you get in touch with the pre-school that you want and put your name down on a waiting list (if there is one). If your child is at a private nursery you need to make sure that their a 'partnership provider' or something like that which means that you can get a refund of some of your fees. Again, our nursery did this automatically and the cheque came through the nursery so you should ask them. Like someone above said, you are eligible for the term after they turn 3 so that would be from August.
