Guess who was holding my baby when I went to collect him...

The nursery chef ! He has been sat in the room before when I have been to collect DS2 from nursery, but today he was actually holding DS2 when I arrived. I'm not very happy about it tbh (he smokes aswell), how do I go about raising it with the nursery manager without upsetting everyone?

Aww thanks Db and CBM - I can't believe this thread has carried on going!

I don't believe I sounded hysterical or snobby about this at all. I haven't and won't be saying anything to the nursery at the moment, but I still stand by my original at the chef holding the baby.

Boo hiss to those of you who felt it necessary to criticise my parenting and make assumptions about me. I posted on here for info and advice from those with experience, not to be controversial and take an (undeserved) bashing - you spiteful meanies

Chef will be CRB checked due to plae of work.

Chef wasn't looking after the baby; was merely holding baby - maybe he just likes children and babies, and gave your little one a cuddle.

Yes, smoking in front of the children a big no no.

Only half of nursery staff need to be qualified, so even when someone you think is childcare trained is holding your DS2, they may not be qualified.
The Chef is not in ratio, so is an extra pair of hands. If many children in the baby unit are needing settling, then perhaps he was just helping out, having completed all kitchen tasks. I would be concerned if it was happening on a regular basis, as it would imply to me that the nursery required more childcare staff in the baby unit.

the cook at ds1's nursery is on their list of "keyworkers" for the day.
I don't really know what that menas though.
she seems lovely though and I wouldn't mind if she held him (he might though, because he's 3 and a half lol)

I would be a bit miffed (a lot really) when you were shown around the nursery they never said her is the cleaner and the chef they will be able to hold and take care of your daughter on occasion!! you pay for a qualified person to care for your child. I get the point that he was only holding her but why was he holding her? if the others are too busy elsewhere then I would be worried about that. and the smoking erghhh I understand that too!
