What is the ratio of children to adults on trips out?

my dd is 3.8 and her nursery does trips out - I am a bit concerned about how many adults they take with them. Does anyone know what the ratio should be?

I might be wrong but is it not 1 adult per 3 children under 5?

Oh that is ok if that is the case - I thought it might be more if they go out

i can tell u for definate the ratio for 3-5 years olds is 1:8 - im currently studying childcare and just covered this!

No legal obligation for nursery to increase ratio from standard 1:8, however they have to show that they have taken all risk's into account and a written risk assessment. Personally 1:3 or 1:4 is an absolute max in my opinion (depending on which children).

exactly what mummywannabe said! many nuresries which increase the ratio on outings!

OFSTED told us ( and we feel comfortable with)1:3 but we often have 1:2 depending on numbers of walkers/prams

Basically we don't go on big organised outings as our nerves can't take it!!

We do go on walks around our village though and this has been a godsend

While the ratio in our pre-school is 1:8 for 3-5 year olds, when we go on our summer trip we are strictly on a 1:1 basis, which is why most of the parents come too. With trips out, there are obviously more hazards and potential for accidents. Sorry but not sure if this is just our supervisor's preference or whether it is statutory.

It's brilliant KatyMac -it's very flexible & light & the kids love going on it becasue THEy get to hold on! The beauty of it is two carers can safely have 6 children & know they are safe ( especially if you have ones that will NOT hold hands)When you get to the park or whereever you just unclip them form the main bit so they can play & then hitch them up again for going home.

My mums school does 1:3 for little ones in nursery raising through the years up to 1:10 in yr 6.

janx it isn't cheap but worth it for the peace of mind & the kids relax more because they don't HAVE to hold hands.
