That made me cry. Its just awful, many parents worry so so much about placing their children in nursery and you do
it whilst reassuring yourself they will receive the best possible care. How utterly harrowing for the parents.

KeyboardWhinger · 23/05/2024 15:04

I wonder if any of her other conduct will be reviewed? There is just no way this was a one off. I suspect this was a regular practice and she has always gotten away with it before.

It’s awful isn’t it. I felt it should be on this thread because what the judge has said answers so many questions upthread and makes it clear what this staff member did went way way beyond leaving a baby to sleep in a way that was a bit off the safe sleep rules.

I’m not sure the judge was correct to talk about this child being ‘strapped down’ if the harness was a built-in part of what was essentially a baby bed.

The baby shouldn’t have been swaddled and shoved on her side for sure, but the nursery worker was hardly responsible for the bed having a harness if it was built in. Which company manufactured this bed? Did it meet all relevant safety standards? Why were these questions not asked at this trial?

MissHavershamReturns · 26/05/2024 08:36

@User8646382 the childcare worker’s version at the trial was that she put the little girl on her side. The judge said in the full comments I’ve linked that the evidence didn’t support her story and the childcare worker had put the baby face down. So the harness was used to strap her down, as the baby was strapped in face down.

I have never used one of these bean bag things for my dc but presumably they are only intended for the baby to be in on their back? And presumably not when tightly swaddled as this woman did with this poor little one? Also she had a blanket put over her head.

Really upsetting news story confirming another worker from the nursery has been jailed for treatment of other children.

Oh my god that’s appalling. I recently gave feedback at a nursery I was temping at that one of the younger members of staff didn’t have much patience with the toddlers in her care, it was nothing like this thankfully and nothing physical but was still horrible to hear and I couldn’t not say anything. It’s still rare though that this happens. Beggars belief that this nursery has TWO monsters like this on their books.
