Sickness

aliatalia2 · 02/03/2024 20:20

My nursery accuses me of deliberately sending a sick child there, however I didn't know he was sick because he was fine in the morning. The nursery manager tells me off all the time for something or the other. I pay £85pd to send him there and sometimes it feels like they pay me to take him. Are all nurseries like this?

There have been times I have given my daughter Calpol in the morning to mask the fever

So the nursery are correct then?

If your child has a fever, she absolutely should not be at nursery!

FoxtrotSkarloey · 03/03/2024 20:02

Sounds like karma.

Now into my fifth year of having a DC at nursery and I've never done it.

Parents say if they don't have a fever for 4 hours, they send them

Even if you don't care about staff and other children, do you not think your child would like to stay home and have cuddles with parents rather than be ill at school?

The other kids also pass on illnesses. Not a one way thing

@aliatalia2 I know. I have a child at nursery who has been off more this year than she's been in. Because she's ill and more than anything she'd rather be home getting well, not fighting a fever and what not at nursery!
Take care of your child

I guess you don't pay for childcare.. I've found that it helps when their mind is engaged... they don't focus on the illness

Unbelievable.

britneyisfree · 03/03/2024 21:31

@aliatalia2 don't pay? Of course I pay. Who goes to nursery for free lol
I just do my best to put her first. It's not always easy but I wouldn't be trying to trick staff

@aliatalia2 Nobody says this 😂 who is checking their kids temp 4 hours before they start nursery in the morning? 🙄😂

We all get it - kids getting sick and dealing with childcare/working is hard. DH works offshore for weeks at a time and DS only ever seems to get sick when he’s away and I have to take time off to cover sick days. Is it ideal? No! I need to work to make money. Is it a nightmare with work? Absolutely. But there’s no way I’m sending a nursery aged kid to fight a fever all day in nursery when they should be at home resting.

Haven't you had all nighter sicknesses?

Wtf. So you've been doing what they've accused you of. Do you tell them when you give them calpol? It's really important you do.

BananaSplitsss · 03/03/2024 21:38

aliatalia2 · 03/03/2024 19:59

Didn't all parents do it? After all, no one likes to pay extortionate rates for free!

No they didn’t and because of that we had a great sickness record for children. Very few children were ever so unwell that the parents would be called to collect.

My Nursery was very clean, staff were great at following guidelines re cleaning and the parents didn’t take the piss like they do now.

@aliatalia2 Of course we have. I doubt many nursery aged kids haven’t.

How often are you actually sending your kid/kids in doses up on Calpol?

kbe15 · 03/03/2024 21:40
  1. Just because other parents are doing it doesn't make it right
  2. Your child needs to be at home resting if they are ill, I know when my dd is poorly she wants lots of cuddles with mum or dad
  3. There will probably be children their with weakened immune systems who you are putting at risk
  4. Don't be that person...

Think you might be right. I cannot imagine someone sending a sick child to nursery. When my child have a fever, there is no way I would be sending them to school. They need to be at home, especially as I would want to keep an eye on them.

Adults have higher immunity, so get sick less

Don't think you can be immune to virus's. You are the type of parent that nurserys dislike! No wonder they try and send your sick kids home! They have blamed you of that becuase you are known for it!!!

No we don’t do this. But then we wouldn’t force ourselves to work if we were ill and needing medication.

I worked from home even when I had Covid. Not fair for your colleagues to feel extra pressure

Apparently all parents do that but they just don't admit it

All parents don't do this because they realise that a nursery is not the right place for a sick child who should be at home.
