Sickness

My nursery accuses me of deliberately sending a sick child there, however I didn't know he was sick because he was fine in the morning. The nursery manager tells me off all the time for something or the other. I pay £85pd to send him there and sometimes it feels like they pay me to take him. Are all nurseries like this?

What do you mean accuses you? By saying what? The problem is parents do send their children in when they know they are poorly and get pissy when they are phoned to pick them up. What else do they tell you off for?

hoarahloux · 02/03/2024 21:25

Did he suddenly develop a temperature about 10:30-11am? Usually means they've been Calpolled!

I'd be surprised if you were directly accused of it though.

There have been times I have given my daughter Calpol in the morning to mask the fever he had and she's been fine during the day. But then there are days when she wasn't actually sick at night but got sick during the day. Depends on luck, doesn't it?

So the nursery are correct then?

TinyYellow · 03/03/2024 07:01

If you send sick children into nursery, you shouldn’t be surprised that you get complained at for sending sick children into nursery.

No the times I have given her Calpol, I've managed to fool them. But they have complained about the days I didn't know she was sick. ..

If I kept her at home all the days she was sick, then I wouldn't be able to earn money to pay the nursery fees, as we don't get paid when we're off taking care of children

Drugging your child to mask illness.
Classy!

DidIReallyAsk · 03/03/2024 10:30

"Managed to fool them".

Firstly your child probably could use the rest at home and secondly you're potentially spreading germs to the other children whose parents also need to work, but who keep their child home when sick and don't try and "fool" the nursery.

Maybe get your nursery's policy on illness so you know when and when not to send your child.

hoarahloux · 03/03/2024 13:25

I hate parents like you. Irresponsible.

You didn't fool the nursery, trust me. That's probably why they're irritated with you...

GrazingSheep · 03/03/2024 13:28

🙄

penelopepinkbott · 03/03/2024 13:29

Does your daughter identify as a he?

NuffSaidSam · 03/03/2024 13:33

They think you're the sort of inconsiderate thicko who would send a sick child to nursery?

Outrageous! You'd never do that would you? Oh wait....

Thefaceofboe · 03/03/2024 17:48

Hopefully they hand you your notice and send you on your way…

Apparently all parents do that but they just don't admit it

I asked others and they said they do the same... All of us know all others will need to get it anyway, so better have immunity

Please remember when you are "fooling" the nursery, the staff then get sick and do not get paid sick leave. Yeh, thanks.

I literally hate parents like you. So annoying

30cycles · 03/03/2024 18:15

Tbh OP at least when your child goes to school your approach will be celebrated as schools want kids in regardless of being unwell to meet attendance targets !

Adults have higher immunity, so get sick less

Yeah this.

Nursery Managers aren’t silly you know- I used to be one and we always knew the parents who did this.

Didn't all parents do it? After all, no one likes to pay extortionate rates for free!
