How to dress crawling baby in summer

First time mum here 👋
I am starting to shop for my little one’s outfits for the summer to wear at nursery and at home. He is crawling at the moment. Last year’s summer was super hot in London. If I put him in shorts with his knees exposed will it make them sore? How do you dress your crawling babies in summer? Are knee caps any good or are they gimmicks?

Romper or joggers with vest should be fine. Babies typically aren't crawling outdoors and they're fine crawling indoors with bare knees. I found rompers easiest in properly hot weather.
