Unhealthy and expensive food in my child's nursery

What are your children being fed at nursery?
How much do you pay for meals?
I was shocked and appalled to hear of all the high sugar, high salt foods my 2yo is served at nursery DESPITE their promises of a healthy meal. I mean what do they call healthy? Crisps and chicken nuggets?
Not only that, but we pay £5 a day top of fee for their meals - and i am certain they aren't spending £5 a day on food costs.
Am I being unreasonable, or is this normal?

Are you receiving 15 or 30 hours yet? Or do they just itemise your charges? Just wondering why you know it’s £5. what does £5 include? 3 meals plus snacks? 1 meal? All nurseries cost differently. I don’t think £5 is bad at all. If they just provide lunch when they say £5 it probably covers more, such as the washing up etc, eg when we go to a restaurant we know when we pay £10 for a meal, we aren’t just paying for food.

our nursery is £100 a day and they don’t say what is allocated to food. Breakfast is porridge, weetabix or toast with butter. Lunch will be a big meal such as lasagne, and pudding will be apple crumble and custard. Tea will be lighter such as sandwiches.

snacks will be fruit, cucumber and hummous, breadsticks, etc. they do not give crisps, and don’t do things like chicken nuggets. They have organix bars and fruit pouches etc if children are really playing up and not eating anything at all, just so they don’t starve.

IMHO they shouldn’t be giving crisps and chicken nuggets - no shade, I do it at home but when we spend a fortune I’d hope they can get more nutrition

Hmm, I suppose it depends what kinds of chicken nuggets and chips. Are they home made? What suggests they are high sugar and salt content?

@Mammamia23 also, £100 a day?! Where are you? I thought our nursery was expensive for £79 a day
