Stop Childcare Ratios Increasing!

I wonder if maybe people wouldn't mind sharing and signing this petition at all?

We lost out little man, Oliver Steeper, at 9 months old after a choking incident at his nursery.

A few days ago Boris Johnson proposed that a way to cut the cost of living would be to increase the number of children an adult is responsible for in early years settings. This cannot happen...there's other ways to decrease the cost of childcare, and to lump our childrens' safety in with a proposal to reduce MOT requirements is utterly shocking.

We need it to get to 100k signatures for the Government to consider it for debate. Please, if you feel able, sign and share.

Thank you so much everyone xxx

So sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy- signed.

I've signed and I'm so sorry for your loss.

Are you able to amend the wording to include your story (if you're happy to) to give it even more value than it already deserves.

Some mp's won't even think of the reason behind it.

On a positive note , as I was signing the numbers we're going up in front of my eyes Smile

As a childminder I totally agree increasing ratios is super dangerous. When the gov introduced that a level 6 qualified teacher could have 13 children I didn't agree.
Currently there is a total lack of clarity and ofsted are ambiguous with ratios for childminders and I see too many menders having 6 children all under school age. This is so dangerous.

Yes I agree. I viewed a childminder who told me there was no limit to the number of preschoolers she could have. I was shocked.

Very sorry about your loss.
Signed the petition. It is bad as it is so should not be allowed to get worse.

signed, the government are crazy even if this did come in it won’t lower childcare costs as no childminder or nursery is going to do extra work and charge less e.g. a childminder have 4 small people to look after but only earn the same amount as having 3.Not going to happen.

OxfordDonna · 11/05/2022 14:44

Absolutely, they are clearly not going to pass the savings down to parents. It's a terrible idea.

RiverRats · 11/05/2022 14:55

I’ve just signed. I’m so sorry for your loss, he is such a gorgeous little boy💐

Tanith · 11/05/2022 15:37

"I viewed a childminder who told me there was no limit to the number of preschoolers she could have. I was shocked."

That's not correct. Childminders are still restricted to 6 under 8s overall.
They're allowed to play around with the ages within that limit for continuity of care, but they're accountable to Ofsted if they decide to deviate from the 3 under 5s, 1 under 1s rule and they should be able to demonstrate they can cope with those numbers.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/05/2022 18:30

Signed. Such a stupid idea and won't make a difference to cost. Would just mean nurseries doing it the old way or a lot like me if changed things leaving the job. Hopefully this is one of those thrown out ideas and that's it..still shouldn't been thrown out..

Sorry for your loss.

Thank you so much everyone for the bumping - if you've not seen it already, the Government have responded and said there will be a public consultation. We'll be pushing this when it's out as we need as many responses as possible for Will Quince to see people don't agree xxx

@welshpolarbear unfortunately we can't share anymore than Oli died just yet, as the Police investigation is ongoing and we don't want to jeopardise anything for the case. As soon as we can, we will 💙 xxx

Signed!
I can't believe this is even a consideration.

5000kilometers · 19/05/2022 09:48

I received the email about the consultation OP, after signing your petition. I hope this can get a lot of prominence on Mumsnet. I wonder where would be good to share the details when they are released?

Flowers to you and your family

I hope we can get a turn-around because the idea of increasing ratios is ridiculous!
