Stop Childcare Ratios Increasing!

I wonder if maybe people wouldn't mind sharing and signing this petition at all?

We lost out little man, Oliver Steeper, at 9 months old after a choking incident at his nursery.

A few days ago Boris Johnson proposed that a way to cut the cost of living would be to increase the number of children an adult is responsible for in early years settings. This cannot happen...there's other ways to decrease the cost of childcare, and to lump our childrens' safety in with a proposal to reduce MOT requirements is utterly shocking.

We need it to get to 100k signatures for the Government to consider it for debate. Please, if you feel able, sign and share.

Thank you so much everyone xxx

Signed - with a baby about to start nursery I'm not thrilled about the cost but I still feel strongly this is the wrong thing to propose.

I'm so sorry for what you've been through, such a beautiful boy

espressocroissant · 05/05/2022 22:56

I have signed this. I'm so sorry you had to go through a parents worse nightmare and I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I honestly don't know what to say but thank you for bringing this to our attention and starting this campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of what they are proposing which will put so many young children in danger. I truly wish from the bottom of my heart that you and your gorgeous son didn't have to go through this to highlight how this is proposal is so dangerous.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 05/05/2022 23:00

Beautiful boy 💐
The childcare staffing crisis is just that - an absolute crisis. People are leaving in their droves and those who take up the posts are woefully underqualified and utterly inexperienced. High quality childcare should be the norm, not the gold standard.

grannyjacob · 05/05/2022 23:06

Signed and shared on Twitter/Fc’bk. Also emailed to a few people. Unbelievable that anyone could consider this as a viable proposal. 💙

grannyjacob · 05/05/2022 23:09

Forgot to say, please post this on Gransnet as well, I’m sure you’ll get a lot of signatures.

Signed.
So so sorry about your beautiful boy ❤️

I used to work in nurseries before I had my own and it's so sad that the government would even consider putting staff and children in this impossible situation, staff are already at breaking point and sadly if this goes ahead it will only push more out of the profession, ratios need decreasing to provide better quality childcare not increasing. Reckless and dangerous.

alapis · 06/05/2022 08:51

This popped up on my social media this morning and I signed, I have two in childcare and the notion makes me furious. Childcare should be affordable for parents on normal and low wages, and the people (women) who work in the industry should be properly financially rewarded for their skills, knowledge and care. That will only happen by a government increasing funding, not reducing ratios.

I'm so sorry for your loss, that is absolutely heartbreaking. Flowers

meow1989 · 06/05/2022 12:02

Signed. So sorry for your loss Flowers

Tanith · 06/05/2022 13:41

I remember when this happened and they closed the nursery down. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Ratios were under attack in 2012, this is originally a proposal from Liz Truss when she was Early Years minister and Mumsnet got right behind the campaign to stop it happening then.
I hope they will do so again.
