Tattoos of staff members....

I would like some opinions on this subject.....
How would you feel about a member of staff in your child's nursery having tattoos? Would it bother you, would you feel differently about them to the other members who didn't have any? Would it effect the way you were with them? Or would it stop you choosing that setting for your child?

I guess some tattoos could be inappropriate, so to avoid any subjectiveness and the possibility of being accused of favouritism, it's easier to insist all tattoos are covered rather than just some.

It's crazy that a nursery expects you to keep them covered while nurses and police officers can have them on show. A tattoo doesn't change a nappy or feed a baby, it's just a deliberate scar!

As long as inappropriate (racist, sexual etc) tattoos are covered I don’t see the issue.

There are many work environments that request tattoos are covered. I think it's a fairly outdated way of thinking today given how common they are. But not unusual. I would think in a nursery jewellery was a bigger issue ie earrings getting ripped out 🤢

The posts about “inappropriate” tattoos makes me realise that I’d rather see my nursery workers tattoos than them be covered up. Because if one has anything sexist or racist permanently inked onto them Id rather know as I don’t want them caring for my child.

I worked at a nursery that requested all tattoos were covered, there was a lady who had a sleeve (a very beautiful one may I add) and she had to wear long sleeve tops, even throughout the summer, I always thought it was totally out of hand.
I have several tattoos myself but they are on my body and legs so unless I have a floaty skirt on in the summer, you can’t see them.

I personally wouldn’t be bothered but I’ve worked in a few schools and without exception tattoos must be covered at all times. I can’t really got on board with the policing of people’s appearances beyond not allowing for eg swastikas or overly sexual images.

I wouldn't even think about it, unless maybe they had something offensive that was obviously visible, like two people going at it doggy style on their forearm. That doesn't mean that employers won't be a bit fussy about it and people with tattoos do get discriminated against. But as a parent, I quite like them and I wouldn't even really give it a second thought (and I don't personally have any tattoos myself).

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest but I know my mum would be very put off. She equates tattoos with "rough" people, the poorly educated and the unprofessional. She would never hire a nanny who had tattoos. I wonder if employers attitudes to tattoos will change over the next twenty years or so as people like my mum retire and get replaced by more normal tolerant folk.
