Tattoos of staff members....

I would like some opinions on this subject.....
How would you feel about a member of staff in your child's nursery having tattoos? Would it bother you, would you feel differently about them to the other members who didn't have any? Would it effect the way you were with them? Or would it stop you choosing that setting for your child?

Lots of the girls at DS's nursery have tattoos (small ones, not mad biker tattoos). In fairness some of my colleagues do too, so it had never occurred to me that it would impact the quality of their work.

PalindromicUser · 15/05/2019 20:27

My DD’s keyworker has tattoos, including a full sleeve. DD colours them in with crayons Grin

DulcieRay · 15/05/2019 20:28

Would not effect me at all

Unless they were on their face? Then I might question their judgment!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 15/05/2019 20:28

No creepy clowns, I should add - just the usual butterfly/star/unicorn/rainbow/Chinese symbol that probably means charred pork.

Janleverton · 15/05/2019 20:29

It wouldn’t bother me. Ds’s best ever primary teacher had quite a lot of tattoos and yet she was/is still an excellent teacher.

Though they were “good” tattoos. It’s not like she had love/hate on her knuckles or a dagger dripping with blood or teardrops. So appreciate that I’m still capable of being cats-bum-mouthed about some tattoos.

Dinosforall · 15/05/2019 20:29

I think our place has this rule as none of the ladies seem to have any tatts on show and I highly doubt none have any.

I can see why. While well-executed tattoos can look amazing, I'm not personally keen on the random small tattoos a lot of people have on their wrists and neck as I think it looks a bit cheap. So I guess not seeing them feeds into a more professional image for the nursery.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 15/05/2019 20:41

When I was little I used to love messing around with my DFs tattoo - tracing it with my finger or trying to stretch his skin to see how much I could distort it - it's on his arm before anyone freaks out 😂

I agree with most posters as long as it's not gruesome or explicit it wouldn't bother me if my DCs nursery nurse had tattoos.

foreverhanging · 15/05/2019 20:50

My husband is a rather high up manager in his company and he has tattoos all over his hands and up to his neck. Doesn't stop him being great at his job!

IgnoranceIsStrength · 15/05/2019 20:54

I think all the staff at my sons nurseries have tattoos. Flowers, wrist bracelets and dates that I can think of. Owner does too. As do I! So no it would not bother me and I really don't understand why you need to cover them

museumum · 15/05/2019 20:57

Our wonderful nursery has staff with tattoos, undercuts and coloured hair. Also some had obviously removed piercings for work (understandable with toddler).

DoxxedFox · 15/05/2019 21:00

I would object if it was an unflattering tattoo of my child’s face. On their face.

TeacupDrama · 15/05/2019 21:04

it depends daggers dripping blood, graveyard scenes, skulls, monsters swear words anything overtly sexual and visible I would not be impressed.
a small flower / Mum/ celtic pattern though tattoos are not my thing I wouldn't care

Widowodiw · 15/05/2019 21:04

Fgs in this day and age of body positivity why would you even ask this? Let your staff wear their tattoos with pride.

SMaCM · 16/05/2019 14:25

My DH, DD and I all have tattoos (not loads) and the children and parents have seen them. Everyone has been fine with them.

hsegfiugseskufh · 16/05/2019 14:27

quite a few staff at DS nursery have tattoos. Doesn't bother me in the least. I have 2 myself though theyre not visible generally. I don't feel different about those with tattoos than I do those without. Why would I?!

TheVanguardSix · 16/05/2019 14:37

No problem in the least.

I’ll admit, at first sight, if a key worker had David Beckham arms, I’d do a bit of a ‘double-take’, but just as quickly get over myself. No issue.

Love my kids, teach them love, help them grow, keep them safe. That’s all I’d hope for.

tkband3 · 16/05/2019 14:41

My kids primary school had this rule - all teachers with tattoos had to cover them up, which looked ridiculous in the summer when they had massive plasters on their arms. It was also absurd given quite a large proportion of the parents had tattoos. I never understood what impact having a tattoo would have on their ability to teach the children.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/05/2019 14:44

It depends what.

Is it going to scare my child ie bleeding skulls or decapitated cats?

Does she reveal something negative about you - Nazi swastika, bnp logo?

Otherwise I do not give a damn. One of my favourite neonatal nurses had bright red hair and two full sleeves of tattoos. More importantly she was a good nurse, she was funny and kind and she listened.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/05/2019 14:47

Lots of the girls at DS's nursery have tattoos (small ones, not mad biker tattoos) aren't they a bit young? I thought ear piercing a 4 yo was a bit much...

FenellaMaxwell · 16/05/2019 14:47

Unless it was a portrait of Nigel Farage or something, I wouldn't care. DS's keyworker has bright blue hair and tattoos. She's also highly qualified and he loves her. That's really all I care about!

Beaubird83 · 16/05/2019 14:57

Wouldn’t mind in the slightest. I have tattoos which dd1 used to colour in with her felt pens as a toddler. If they were decent tattoos I’d probably try and find out where they got them 😂
Unless the tattoos literally read “I hate kids” or something along those lines I don’t see the need to hide them either! But there’s always going to be close minded people around that’d turn their noses up to them which is why so many places ask for them to be covered.
I went for an interview with an airline once, and they said I’d have to put make up over my tattoos to completely cover them. It was my dream job, but I wasn’t willing to do that.

Scrapbookqueen1 · 16/05/2019 15:19

I’m a teacher, our deputy and assistant head teachers have tattoos. They look fab and they are brilliant at their jobs!

BigRedBoat · 16/05/2019 17:10

I wouldn't care in the slightest, as long as it wasn't swastikas or swear words.

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 16/05/2019 17:15

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. My sons keyworker has tattoos and quite a few visible piercings and makes her no less a brilliant person who is fabulous with my son.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 16/05/2019 17:16

Agree, I wouldn't care in the slightest.
