Just wondering peoples thoughts on this.... Reading through nursery policy it says not to send if showing any signs of infectious disease....

Anyway, my son has had a cold since last Tuesday/Wednesday. Kept him out of nursery last week. He only attends Tuesday and Thursday mornings. He's well in himself and full of energy but still snotty and coughing. I think I'm going to keep him out as I guess he's still infectious but in reality is this sort of thing adhered to? I imagine most people have to go to work... Our whole house has been down with this cold and I was saying to DP that if I was working I'd be back in the office no question. I'm starting my own business so don't have to be anywhere. I'm just desperate for a break and losing precious time.

You aren't expected to keep children off nursery and school for a cold. If he seems well enough send him in. It's D&V and chicken pox etc that they are concerned about rather than sneezing and runny noses.

Depends, do they have a temperature? A little warm and I’d send them in, anything above 38 for my DS and no. If no temperature then they go in.

No temp. It's just the tail end of a cold. He's absolutely fine but still bubbling snot out his nose and coughing. He's full of beans laughing his head of in the shower with his dad right now.

Colds don’t count. Most nursery children have coughs and sniffles all winter. If he’s happy in himself i5 will be fine.

gigi556 · 18/09/2018 07:31

If he was at school I'd send him. I was just worried as it's a nursery and what the policy says.

I would. Otherwise they’d be home half the winter. Not a fever, but cough and snot unavoidable in my opinion.

Oblomov18 · 18/09/2018 09:03

I would. You don't stay off for the tail end of a cold.

WerewolfNumber1 · 18/09/2018 09:08

Oh definitely send him, it’s fine. If I kept mine off every time he was snotty he’d never be there. Nobody expects you to keep him home for tail end of a cold.

Sent him and all was good. Thanks for wise mums advice!

I would. Unless his temperature is over 38, then that's a no. But if he feels all well and can keep up till the end of the day then that's perfectly fine.
