cost of childcare in Barnet

Hi,

How much can you expect to pay for a baby to go to a nursery in Barnet, Herts a few times a week? We're planning on moving there and starting a family and need to factor in the childcare costs.

Daily/weekly rates would be helpful. I know this may change depending on what type of nursery you choose. Or is it cheaper to have a nanny?

Any help would be very useful.

Hi there
I live in the High/New Barnet area and have visited a few nurseries here. There aren't that many that take under 2's. Those that do charge £50-£60 per day. Childminders work out fractionally cheaper. Nannies, the cost is up to you I am a bit out of touch with going rates. Hope this helps. Remember, you can claim tax credits depending on your income.

hi chunkeymops .. I live in Potters Bar (just down the road from Barnet) and we use the Headstart Nursery in PB ... they also have a branch in Barnet. You are probably well advised to apply for a nursery very early on as there was a waiting list for ours and it delayed my return to work by a couple of months! (not that I really minded). We pay for a full time place and I cant remember the day rates but Helenback is probably more or less right on that front.
