Sickness... baby rarely at nursery. Pls tell me it gets better

Since Dd2 started nursery in september, she has managed 7.5 sessions out of 19. She has her second bout of gastro, first bout went on for over two weeks, and in between had a temp for a few days. I feel absolutely shit about having to send her to nursery as it is, so I feel so guilty that she's sick and I can't be with her. I have a new job and really can't take time off easily so it's all falling to DH and grandparents (DH also getting grief from employer now). Please just tell me it will get better. I know it's best to get it out of the way now. How long did the first lot of illnesses go on for everyone else? Should I plan for all winter :-( Have a six month probation period at my new job which is soooo long!

You'll get a variety of responses here from 'take her out!' to one I saw in a similar thread 'it will reduce her risk of leukaemia'

At the end of the day, you have to work and yes, it does get better. DC1 got chicken pox at 10mo, a month after I'd started a brand new full-time job. It was shit, and DH and I had to share time off at a bloody awkward time, but employment law exists to protect parents in these circumstances.

A nanny may suit you better if you have sickly child

It should get better. On the plus side, they are less likely to catch every illness on starting school.

it does get better, I went back to work in Jan, and my daughter - 8mo - started nursery, she managed 1 week at nursery, then 1 week off, 2 weeks at nursery, sent home next week, two weeks at nursery, sent home... etc.

We had gastro, colds, hand foot and mouth (suspected CPox), and temps reaching 40.3, and also a low temp and shaky at nursery, and puking cos she was constipated.

This went on for around 2 months... slowly settling down, as she got used to nursery and she got over the bugs that she hadn't come into contact with before. Also our nursery now know her a little better so see how she goes before sending her home/calling. It gets better!
