Etiquette regarding cards and gifts for nursery staff - advice needed

This will be my DSs first Christmas in nursery. So far we have received individual cards from all the staff in his room plus the nursery management team. I think I need to give them all individual cards back.

What exactly is the etiquette regarding gifts / cards etc at Christmas? Should I be getting them all a small gift or perhaps just DSs main contact? This only just occurred to me. They do a great job but I don't have loads of free money. If I am meant to get them a gift what do I get?

Don't want them to think I don't appreciate what they do as I really do but have absolutely no idea what they would like.

Some parents buy nothing
Some parents buy a big box of chocs or biscuits for the staff to share
Some buy individual gifts for everyone
Some buy individual gifts for just the key person
Some buy individual gifts for the key person and a box of chocs for the rest of the staff to share
Whatever you do it will be appreciated

I've bought a big tub of roses addressed to DDs key worker and all of the nursery team with a note in a card to her key worker to say thanks for getting her settled and to everyone there for being lovely.

I'm a teacher and often receive gifts for me and my TAs.

Saying that my dd only attends 2 hours a week atm so I didn't feel I had to go too overboard with presents.

I guarantee they will appreciate whatever you get them.

I used to bring a big box of Krispy Kream Donuts or put muffins/brownies in a big basket for them to share during the day. I was happy to send a little gift for DS main carer.

I've written cards for dd's 5 nursery assistants. Each child has 2 key workers but I'm thinking a box of chocolates for all to share. Money is tight atm

I took biscuits in yesterday, that way they can eat them this week befire they break up.

This is our first year with dc at nursery too, I went to local gift shop today and they had wee scented candles in jars for £2 each on offer so I got one each and a card for the four members of staff, I'm hoping that's ok!! I don't think they 'expect' anything though do they??

......I'm now thinking I should have got chocs instead

Today I took in a tub of Roses for them to share.

I've got a big basket of nice smelling foamy hand soap, hand sanitizer and lotion for all the staff to share at work plus a card....and a candle for the director, manager and owner with little individual cards.

I wasn't sure what to do....there are 12 staff and my two children work with all of them in some measure. I was thinking they must get a lot of chocolates the day before going on holidays and wondered if they would even get through all of them or if they'd divy them up.....?

I agree with you OP - it's hard to know what to do.

I've had one or both children at nursery for 6 years. I've usually bought 2 bottles of wine labelled "to x's keyworker" and "to the girls in x group". I think all the presents like this get shared out amongst the nursery nurses anyway.

This year I have got Choc oranges instead of wine as there are so many pregnant nursery girls this year.

Ours get so mamy chocolates, so I bought them all a little christmas candle, and DD's keyworker a bigger gift.

We normally each get a couple of boxes to take home on the last day.

I work in a nursery and we dont 'expect' anything, some people just buy their key worker something.. The majority have bought a box of biscuits/chocolates for everyone x

Ours aren't allowed to accept alcohol or cash/vouchers.

Giving each of the ladies in the room some chocs and a hand cream and have bought a refillable water bottle for the sole guy.

I got DD2's keyworker a pair of slippers (chosen by DD1 aged 5 who adored DD2's keyworker when she went to the nursery a few years ago) and some chocolate, chocolate for the other keyworker in DD2's room and then a £50 Domino's pizza voucher for all staff so they can have pizza for their January staff meeting. I usually get a case of wine to share amongst them but DD2 now only goes 2 days a week as we have a nanny 2d a week so I've economised a bit so I can get the nanny a nocer giit too

Why aren't they allowed to accept alcohol? I assume they are all grown ups?
What controlling demeaning behaviour some workers have to put up with

Our nursery's quite big so there are lots of staff who my DDs will spend time with so we go for a shared present as it doesn't seem right to single anyone out.

This year I got them a big multi-pack of nail varnish as they are generally quite young and seem to do lots of team/group events involving beautification of one sort or another. I figured they would be getting a huge amount of chocolate!
