3 head injuries at nursery in less than 2 months. Am I over reacting?

Hi all,

DS is 22 months and has been attending the same nursery for a year. I have to say up until recently I was extremely happy with the way that they were looking after him but I now have some big concerns.

DS is in the 3mth to 2 yrs room. 2 months ago they had a sudden intake of younger babies and the room became a lot more crowded and disruptive. About this same time DS sustained a very nasty bump to the head when he feel into a shelf. He was sick so I had to take him to hospital and was kept in over night. The swelling was the size of a satsuma. I was not concerned by this incident as I do understand that accidents happen.

However last week I was called again to be told he had fallen onto a chair and had bumped his head again. Once again he was sick and had to go to hospital but he was OK. I will admit the alarm bells started ringing with me a bit as he had had 2 accidents in such a short space of time.

But then yesterday they phone me to say he had fallen into another chair and had hurt his face. He has a severely bruised cheek but did not require medical attention.

So everyone, am I over reacting? What would you be thinking if it was your child? What would you do now?

Thank you

Hi Natasha thank you for replying. he has very few injuries at home and I am quite a laid back mum. I tend to let him potter about on his own. I do respect that the nursery have a lto more children to look out for. He tends to get at least one accident form a week (he onyl attends 3 days) which i'm not too worried about. Its just these head injuries that are concerning me slightly.

This sounds awful. I don't think you are over-reacting. I'd be looking for alternatives. What kind of accident would it take for you to pull the plug? I'd say they have run out of chances.

I work in a nursery and rarely see a child have injuries in such short space of time, especially head injuries as they can be serious! As mentioned above I would possibly consider moving if they aren't accident prone at home, or see when they move rooms ie into an older group how they get on x
