I'd like to find a good nursery for my dd who is 13mths. She's never been cared for by anyone else apart from mummy but I now think she needs to socialise with other babies. I would initially only leave her 1 or 2 afternoons/week. What can be defined as a good nursery, what should I look out for ? thanks a lot !

I'm the other side of Norfolk, but there is a Kings Lynn group of MNers, so am bumping up for you.

thanks freakyzebra. I've got another question actually. Most nurseries give a "per session" rate. What constitutes a session ? is it a half day ?

A session usually =2.5 to 3 hours. This is the time that the government subsidises starting the first term after the child turns 3. Usually 5 sessions/week, with no more than 2 sessions on any single day.

But some nurseries define it differently, you'll need to ask what their exact times are for each session.

I've heard of Puddleducks in Fincham, but don't know anyone who's used it yet - it's in the old village school and has been there for a few years, so must be doing something right.

If you do find anywhere, let me know, I need to find a nursery for next summer when DS is 18 months!

Forgot to say before - try www.ofsted.gov.uk You can search for daycare providers by your postcode, and read their reports on local nurseries etc. Handily, if they've been inspected before, you can also read the previous reports to see if they've made improvements.

Just checked on two local nurseries to me, and they both have cracking reports, so I'm feeling very relieved - now we just need to get on the waiting list!

jessicart, I found a nursery that so far we've been pleased with. It's in Hockwold, and it's called children's world. My dd is starting her 3rd week there and seems to like it. The only thing that would annoy me a bit is their sleeping arrangement, but she goes in between naps so it's not a problem for us. Let me know if you want precisions, have to go and pick her up now !
