I am a PhD student at Queen’s University Belfast and I am currently running the Great Pet Travel Survey 2026 as part of my research.
The Great Pet Travel Survey was first run in 2012 and has been repeated periodically since then. The research looks at how and where dogs travel, dogs arriving in the UK from other countries, parasite prevention and awareness of diseases associated with travel, and owners’ views on pet travel regulations.
Who can take part?
- I am looking for all dog owners living in the UK.
- You do not need to have travelled abroad with your dog to take part. I am interested in hearing from owners whose dogs:
- Travel overseas
- Do not travel overseas
- Were born in the UK
- Arrived in the UK from another country, including relocation and overseas rescue dogs
What does the survey involve?
- The survey asks about:
- Your dog and any travel or importation history
- Parasite treatments and preventive measures
- Awareness of diseases that dogs may encounter outside the UK
- Views on pet travel regulations and disease prevention
The survey is completed online and should take approximately 5–10 minutes.
Responses are anonymous and will be used for scientific research, publication and policy advice only. They will not be used commercially or passed to third parties. Further information about the research and use of the data is provided on the first page of the survey before you decide whether to take part.
