That sounds like a win to me @Thebookofcarolagain😁 . A bit of extra colour on the onions just means more flavour, not a problem at all 😋. Good shout adding more stock for the second cook too, especially if it was running low.
And if it’s Ds2 approved, that’s the real seal of approval! 🤣Always a bonus when something new goes down well.
Great find in Aldi as well , love it when you spot something different in there. l haven't seen them yet but will look next time l go in 😁.
Just off to bed. Have a good night everyone 🤗

Morning! quick pop in before we are off to the market - it is glorious this morning @Thebookofcarolagain - here is the recipe for the apple flapjacks . A bit soft , but delicious .They are part of the breakfast DGS eats on his long commute to school . They freeze well . Easy Apple Flapjacks

2 Bramley Apples peeled and chopped into small pieces/slices ( I use Cox apples if available)
200gm unsalted butte
5 tablespoon Golden Syrup
50 g Light Brown Sugar
75 g Demerara Sugar
400 g Oats
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 180°c (160 fan/ Gas 4/ 350F) and line a 20cm square baking tin with baking paper.
(Cook the chopped Bramley apples in a saucepan with 1 teaspoon of water. Cook on a low heat for 4-5 minutes, stirring often, until the apple starts to soften. Set aside. ( or in the microwave with a generous knob of butter - takes 2/3 minutes) )
I dont bother cooking the apples , and don’t add any extra sugar either . I just thinly slice and add as a layer
In a saucepan, melt the butter, sugars and syrup on a low heat for a few minutes until all melted together
Stir in the oats

Press half the mixture into a lined baking tin and press down firmly with the back of a spoon.
Spread over the apples, pressing them down lightly with your hand or a spoon.
Top the apples with the other half of the flapjack mixture, firmly press it down with the back of spoon and bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes.
Score into bars lightly then allow to cool completely in the tin. I often place the tin in the fridge for an hour to help the flapjack set.

Thebookofcarolagain · 03/03/2026 11:08

Morning all.
Thanks @bookbook will try them.
Got a call from dentist, theres been a cancellation so I am going 15 mins earlier to my doom. Eek.
Lovely day here too after last night's gales.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 03/03/2026 11:33

Oh lovely recipe @bookbook.
Thank you 🤗.
@Thebookofcarolagain glad you have lovely weather, good luck at the dentist 🍀👌.
Hoovered downstairs , got the washing in the tumble , collected 2 parcels from post office . Done the library and market , picked up some more Garibaldi bisks . Got my pots soaking for jkt spuds tonight 😋😁

Crikey you have been busy @DirtyGertiefromno30
Out of dentust...owwwww. despite anaesthetic I still felt it, well the intense pressure down onto my nerves and pushing and pulling, was not pain-free! But its done. Have a wadge of blood soaked gauze in my mouth! No hot drinks or food today...ha ha i ain't missing my coffee i will have it warm 🤣
Off to Asda.

FridayNighFeeling · 03/03/2026 13:03

Oh bless you, yes at least it's done @Thebookofcarolagain

3 loads! Fabulous @bookbook good luck with the garden too.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 03/03/2026 14:29

Ouch 😱 that pressure feeling is the worst, even with anaesthetic @Thebookofcarolagain. You did well to get through it 👏
Asda straight after though 😂 you’re real hardcore. Let the coffee cool a bit and you’ll be fine ☕
Just put washing away , tidied up after ill Dd1 , why is it they make such a mess when they are feeling ill 🤣
She's ok just got this bug that's going about, we have all had it 🙄🤧🤒😷 and she's feeling really sorry for herself bless her .

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 03/03/2026 14:48

Aww bless her @DirtyGertiefromno30 she's 'ILL' you can't tidy up after yourself (you can make a mess but strangely CANT tidy it 😉).
Gave had a coffee i let go luke warm with painkillers before the anaesthetic wears off completely. I have a full A4 sheet of instructions to follow! Well some don't apply but heck! It says don't rinse your mouth today, too late I did and cleaned my teeth there was blood everywhere!
Got bramley apples in Asda to bake the flapjacks. Couldn't find the sugar anywhere, not by the bakingstuff, niwhere on the goid audles, where the geck do tgey hude it? , t was nowhere! Just wanted to get out and leave by then. I have every kind except demerara but will just use one of them its sugar😉 Got bananas, thought they might be good for later. Might make porridge to put them in. Got the croquettes for ds2 as well. Then got diesel and home. Goodness knows what's gonna happen now that the Strait of Hormuz is closed. Fuel is gonna skyrocket or run out if this continues.
Had Ken Bruce on radio on way up. The love song was Bryan Adams "Everything i do", singing along like a boss🤣 Of course by law that means I have to watch Robin Hood later. I don't care about all the inconsistencies I love it especially Alan R 😍 If you take it at face value its a cracking film, I do like Kevin C too.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 03/03/2026 15:09

Good shout getting painkillers in early @Thebookofcarolagain. Don’t stress about rinsing/teeth cleaning ,just leave it alone now and let it settle. The bloody sink moment is always so frightening 😱
Asda hiding the demerara like treasure 🤣 .Sugar is sugar for flapjacks l am sure it will be fine just not so toffee like 😋. Bramleys will be lovely. Banana porridge later is a very good plan 🤗
Fuel will creep up if Strait of Hormuz issues drag on, but you’re filled up so are we and we are ahead of it already , we will just have to walk everywhere locally/car share and only drive for the important things if it comes to that l suppose 🙄 .
Mum will be a priority for us of course.
If Ken Bruce plays Everything I Do, you must watch Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves 😁. Alan Rickman steals it every time, closely followed by KC 😍
Sofa, pain relief , soft food and relax 💐🤗 .

Thebookofcarolagain · 03/03/2026 16:57

Owwwww!

First had the anaesthetic wearing off being cold and that weird itchy way that's not a proper itch and you can do nothing about it. Now it's dammmmmm sore, taken brufen so fingers crossed.
Hunted out the Robin Hood dvd so am set for this pm. 😁
Blooming cold now 🥶 9° outside apparently, feels like 1° inside!

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 03/03/2026 17:05

Ouch, that sounds rough @Thebookofcarolagain 😱Fingers crossed the Brufen kicks in soon 🤞. Good thinking with the Robin Hood DVD, it's classic distraction therapy! 😁 Keep warm and rest up, it takes it out of you .
Baked pots done having cheese with them 😁
My favourite 😋
Wondering if l should start prepping for war 😱
Am only half joking here tbh 🙄

OP posts:
FridayNighFeeling · 03/03/2026 18:09

Ah Alan Rickman swoon

Hope it has settled @Thebookofcarolagain Flowers

Thebookofcarolagain · 03/03/2026 21:35

Brufen worked after a while thanks ladies. Have had to take cocodamol now.
But am now in dream world with Kevin and Alan😍😍 so ignoring my face ache🤣
Do.you soak your pots before baking them @DirtyGertiefromno30 ? i meant to ask earlier, never heard of that.
My food stores, hygiene products etc are pretty full so even if theres shortages we will get by for a while @DirtyGertiefromno30 . I like to kept a few of everything in cupboards just in case. I also have a few basics in attic, not much but its there in emergencies.

If USA doesn't do something pdq it will affect the whole world but nobody will go to USAs aid now. They are screwed. Doing Isreals bidding, Putin sitting by laughing his socks off. USA think they are the greatest country in the world but it's fast losing everything because of donnie diapers. Farming is shot, tourism crashed, no one wants to trade with them now, trumpet acting illegally, its now a facist train wreck.they got what they voted for.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 03/03/2026 22:37

So glad the brufen finally kicked in but ooh cocodamol territory, painful 😬. Good excuse to drift off into dreamland with Kevin and Alan though 😍.
I always soak my jkt potatoes and then scrub them before cooking cos l eat the skins 😂.
You’re sensible keeping a few bits stocked up. Not in a doomsday way, just that careful amount . That kind of prep makes you feel a bit better about it all in case of shortages .
World politics feels very loud and chaotic at the moment. It’s hard not to get swept up in it. Probably best place for you right now though is sofa, painkillers, and your film, let the madness sort itself out 🙄
I do agree that it all needs sorting out and the USA has really gone to the dogs 🙄
Keep warm, keep resting and no poking the sore bit with your tongue! 😂

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 03/03/2026 23:29

🤣🤣 no poking at all @DirtyGertiefromno30 don't want to knock the clot off.

I eat the skins to but just give them a scrub first.
Yep i don't have a stockpile for months, wish I had but no room🤣🤣 just stuff we use regularly, plus some cleaning stuff and pack of loo rolls in attic. Not very peppery compared to some I do like going on the pepper site, not on here, the UK one , just to read, not contribute, some are crazy stocked up and have all sorts of stuff. It's very interesting.
Well that was fab just the thing to take my mind off my achy bits. When he fires that fkamingbartiw....oh my❤️

Good morning everyone 🌞
We have sun yay! 🤣🤣
Off to see Mum in a bit will wash her hair with some of the NilAqua lotion that l don't have to rinse off with water. It's perfect for bedridden people.
Definitely no poking @Thebookofcarolagain😂 Guard that clot with your life.
I’m with you on the skins, they are 😋. Extra fibre and less faff.
Your stash sounds very sensible to me. Prepping, not bunker level madness 😂
Not seen the prepper sites but will have a look .
Glad it took your mind off the aching for a bit. And OMG yes when he fires that bow, steady on 😁
Must get some washing on to hang out before we go to see Mum.
Have a lovely day everyone 😊

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 04/03/2026 11:06

Morning all.
Not a bad day here either @DirtyGertiefromno30 but cold.
Going down street later ds1 has an appoint and is going to coop, I need to see if they have chicken gravy granules, Asda didn't have any yesterday. Gonna go to chemist too as I have rsn out of one tablet, for some reason. Either I didn't order it or maybe its sitting in chemist and they didn't give me it all. Have ordered it with a note so fingers crossed they can give me a weeks supply before they get the prescription.

Mouth still sore so just drinking tea and coffee so far today.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Thebookofcarolagain · 04/03/2026 15:27

Ooooohhh it's another Xmas miracle. Went to chemist with my repeat prescription slip, explained the situation to the lass and she took it to the pharmacist. Then came back saying they had the prescription from the health centre and would just be checking it for me in a minute. Amazing! So got my meds right there and then. Wow!
Lovely down town, blue sea, waves crashing over the wall but blooming cold.
Went to coop got the gravy granules, and had a look in the reduced section and got a steal pie half price. That's tonight's tea sorted 😁

Gum is still damm sore so took more pain killers. Can still feel it but not as much.
Need to get pots prepped for tea, ds2 has a wash on so not my job today😁😁

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 04/03/2026 17:38

Afternoon everyone 🤗
Well that really was a little Christmas miracle at the chemist @Thebookofcarolagain .
I love it when something you’re gearing up to be a faff just isn’t. You explained it, they sorted it, meds in hand , job done. That must’ve felt like such a relief 😁👏
Blue sea and waves crashing over the wall sounds absolutely gorgeous, even if it was blooming freezing. There’s something about a cold, bright day by the sea that clears your head a bit, isn’t there?
And look at you , gravy granules secured and a half price steak pie from the reduced section. That’s tonight’s tea sorted with zero drama 😋
I’m sorry your gum is still so sore though. You’ve done all the right things , painkillers, taking it easy, just drinks for now. It does take a few days to properly settle, especially if it was a tricky one. Hopefully by tomorrow it’ll have eased again.
Also, Ds2 doing the wash and it not being your job today? That’s the real miracle 😂 Enjoy that 😁.
Mum wasn't at all well there today , refusing to eat or drink for me, in a lot of pain and hitting the staff and shouting when they had to see to her so they called the Drs who has upped her Oramorph and her Morphine patch . I was expecting her to really go downhill when she had the extra Morphine and Oramorph but au contraire she's rallied big time , drank over a litre of fluids for me and ate a whole yogurt ,a big banana and 3 milk tray chocs . I have been there over 7 hrs with her but she told us to go and when she tells us that it's time to go because she's tired 🤗.
Honestly l have been through the mire today with her. I know she's not got a lot longer .l do realise that but as long as she is out of pain and kept comfy that's all l want ❤️.
Hope everyone is ok today and had this beautiful weather 🤗

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 04/03/2026 19:38

Glad your mum got her meds sorted out and it made her more relaxed @DirtyGertiefromno30 Its tough but she sounds much better and happier by the time you left.

Yep i am having to take regular painkillers to keep on top of it, very annoying but what can you do, it is what it is.
Had the pie for tea, not very deep but was fine. Made the apple flapjacks, bottom layer is a bit soft, tried putting it in a bit longer with foil on top as top was catching. Will see if it hardens up more. looks good though. 😋
Ds1 bought me a pkt of Baklava! Was on special offer in coop, the last thing i need 🤣🤣 Will give some to ds2 he likes it although he is one of those annoying people who can go without sweet stuff for ages or make things last weeks!
Dishes all done, pjs on, chilling time.
This site drives me mad your post didn't appear till now @DirtyGertiefromno30 I checked earlier, ridiculous.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 04/03/2026 20:00

Aw thank you @ThebookofcarolagainIt’s such a relief leaving when Mum is more settled 😊
You’re right to keep on top of the painkillers. No point struggling through it, nothing more miserable than suffering in pain.
Pie sounds good, even if it wasn’t huge 😋. The flapjacks might firm up, they do sound lovely though 😋
Baklava on offer is very dangerous 🤣!
Those 'make sweets last weeks people' are not normal 🤣And yes, this site is very annoying 🤣
We were so exhausted after today, we had a Chinese takeaway. Beef curry, shared the rice and chips and a pancake roll😋🫃🫄full now 🤣

Thebookofcarolagain · 04/03/2026 21:35

Oh rhat sounds just perfect for a hectic day @DirtyGertiefromno30 . No fuss just good food.

Yes I know how can you do that with sweet stuff, I neeeeeed to learn🤣 I am determined to., once the dates are done! 😉

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 04/03/2026 22:18

It was just the job @Thebookofcarolagain 😁
I hadn't had anything to eat all day so it was even more delicious 😋 😁.
Do you think your Ds could give you some tips how to resist the sugar call ? If he does please relay them to me 😂.
I am in desperate need 😂
