Senior manager on call - pay

Hi there
Bit of a niche question so not really expecting replies.
I'm being pushed to apply for a band 8A Lead post. It involves being on call for the department overnight and I know the managers do get called most nights.

I wondered about remuneration for this as I previously read that 8A can't claim any OT or weekend pay etc?

It's such a stressful part of the job that it would be an immediate deterrent for me if you don't get paid for it.

You should check the on call policy for your trust before applying. Being Band 8A doesn’t necessarily mean you get nothing for being on call, especially if there is a formal on call rota and you are regularly being called overnight.
The bigger question is whether you get a standard on call payment, time off in lieu, or extra pay when actually called in. If managers are getting calls most nights, I’d want those details in writing before taking on the role.

You should get a % of your pay depending on how frequently you’re on call.

In addition to that you should get paid when you are called out. That’s the bit that can vary.

When I was on call it was 30 mins pay per occurrence (such as a phone call), or counted in hours/ minutes if it’s an ongoing situation.

As an 8A you can still claim overtime for this.
