Looking for advice re b12. Recently went and got a b12 injection from a private clinic as a friend recommended it makes you feel energised etc & apparently no one can be too high on b12? Was at the GP for a routine blood test & the receptionist said a gp shall call me back as my b12 levels are really high. Now sitting worried as I’ve googled and according to dr google the injection itself couldn’t have caused this as your body excretes any left over you don’t need? Has anyone experienced this? The rest of my bloods are all normal bar the b12 and I’m hoping it’s only high as I stupidly went and got an injection for it.

thanks

The injections can cause high readings, it’s why people on long term injections don’t routinely have b12 levels checked, it will be reading the boost of b12 you’ve just had. They will likely just do a recheck in 3-6 months.

The most common cause of high B12 in the blood is due to recent ingestion or injection of supplemental vitamin B12. We don't worry about overdosing on B12 supplements because excess can be excreted in your urine.

@Superstar96

Did you notice any difference in your energy levels after your B12 injection?

@Superstar96 if you don't medically require B12 then you are basically paying for very expensive pee. If you aren't low on B12 then your body will just pee it all out but you will test high for up to 4/5 months after an injection as inactive b12 will float around the body until it is fully flushed out. So going to beauty clinics is just playing into the hands of the clinic that charge ridiculous markups. Don't take your friends advise as she is just throwing her money literally down the toilet.

B12 if you need it is great. But useless if you don't.

Symptoms that I get when my 3 monthly injection is due include: extreme fatigue, pins and needles, and a racing heart rate.

If you just feel tired, it could be so many other things. And unless you know you can't absorb it oral supplements are a better source and much cheaper.
