6 year old copper coil sudden problem?

Morning all, I'm new here so please be gentle with me! Possible TMI alert...

So I had my 10 year copper coil installed in early 2017. Can't complain too much, it's done its job, albeit periods are heavier and longer.

So my typical period is, 8th of month start period...warning cramps in lower pelvic and back area...starts with light to moderate bleeding for a few days, followed by a couple of days of flooding, followed by it gradually getting lighter over 2-3 days, then stops. So all in all, I'm bleeding for around 7-8 days. I would say I'm pretty tuned in with my body.

So this month (beginning of May) my 'period' appeared a few days earlier than expected with no warning. It's lasted all of 3 days...with hardly anything. I can fill towels and tampons in a couple of hours normally, tampons normally fill and leak, this time I've been removing them more or less dry (uncomfortable!)

So, yesterday I had some spotting? Deeper red/rusty type of mucusy bloody when I wiped, lasted a couple of hours then disappeared. It felt like my period was about to make an appearance, typical cramping, heavy feeling in lower pelvic and back area, but nothing.

For me this is out of the ordinary and I just feel different. I am normally on my period for longer, heavier and I know when it's coming. I've never been earlier, but have been a bit late in the past. I generally have a very small amount of blood around ovulation too.

I've read about implantation bleeding, but, I know the coil is meant to be very effective. So for me to fall into that 1%, it's slim, but not impossible I know. I've ordered some pregnancy tests, just to rule out. I have checked for my strings (not something I do very often, I must admit) I believe I can feel them.

I'm reaching out to see if any one has been in a similar situation or can offer a bit of advice or just someone to talk to about this...I think I'm more worried about the perimenopause 😂 I'm 34 in a few months.

Thanks in advance, JT
