Night time nappy changes for a newborn

Hi just wondering how often I should be changing by 7 week olds nappy during the night? She currently is waking every 3-4 hours for a feed and I am changing her each time but wondering is this a bit overkill, as it wakes her up more also and the movement of lifting her legs to put the nappy on and off is also making her sick up her bottle more. We are using pampers baby dry nappies .

I change my 6 week old every time he wakes for a feed which is every 2-3 hours but he does tend to have very wet nappies.

I changed my little ones nappy every time but I did it first before the bottle and found it worked a lot better as they got sleepy again after they had their bottle.

They'll probably cry throughout the nappy change but you get quick at it! and the crying doesn't last long but would definitely recommend changing the nappy first.

Overnight....only if they poo! Nappies are designed to hold for 12 hours.

Only if wet or they seemed uncomfortable

PurBal · 11/10/2022 05:59

Only for a poo.

For a poo or if the nappy seems so wet it's going to leak.

I changed it at every wake - I just got faster at changing! My DD is 6 months now and I always do a stealth change before I go to sleep myself.
personally I hate the thought of her being uncomfortable lying in a wet nappy. I wouldn’t like it and although designed, I don’t think it’s great for their skin to have a wet nappy on them that long. so if I can change it so she’s not uncomfortable in my mind then I will.

Every feed but overnight I do it halfway through. Beginning doesn’t work as they are desperate for food and not at the end as too sleepy.

Id have only ever changed it for a poo. Not once has my DD had nappy rash, so it works perfectly fine. I swear by Asda nappies above bigger named brands! They've always kept her dry for the whole night.

With my first I started off with every feed but soon realised this was unnecessarily disturbing her more than needed so after that and with 2 subsequent babies only changed for a poo. Once they sleep through nappies cope for 12+ hours anyway!

I don't change overnight nappies unless there's poo! Why disturb them more than you need to. I don't change my toddlers nappies overnight and they're a hell of a lot fuller than a newborn baby nappy gets!

Pompom2367 · 11/10/2022 06:18

I agree unless it feels really heavy or there is a poo I don't change

Lauandbabies · 11/10/2022 07:41

Thanks everyone. Left her in her nappy on the last night feed and was starting to get the mam guilt so pleased I'm not the only one
