Grade Unreliability

Hello everyone,

I’m part of a student-led group, campaigning for fairer exam grades. CAGs in 2020 and TAGs in 2021 proved the inequalities within the exam system but even on a normal exam diet, it’s riddled with unfairness. Ofqual recognise grades are “reliable to one grade either way” - as the Chief Regulator of Ofqual (at the time), Dame Glenys Stacey, mentioned this on September 2, 2020. Therefore, we are calling on new Education Secretary, Nadhim Zahawi, as well as new Ofqual boss, Jo Saxton, to make their priority ensuring grades are more reliable. We are also asking that from this year’s Autumn exam series, printed on the bottom of each grade certificate is “Ofqual recognise that grades are reliable to one grade either way”. Is anyone, or their children, interested in supporting this campaign?

We have an article coming out; seeking to call for a meeting with new Education Secretary. It’s important to draw attention to this topic to as many people as possible and by doing so, key points at which exams are a main focus are good opportunities.

I'm a little confused.

If you want the grades to be more reliable but you also want something on the certificate to say they are not reliable. Is that right?

@sashh

You’re right, as, until those problems are fixed (practically speaking could take a very long time), a warning mentioning grade unreliability is something we’re requesting.
