Relocating to Alnwick

Hi,
Apologies now for the length of my post! For a long while (years) a move up north has been on the cards for myself, husband and two children. We currently live in Sussex and have unfortunately been priced out of the area we’ve always lived in.
More affordable housing is a huge bonus for us, but the main reason for our move is to have more available family time (we both work weekends) and a better way of life. We’ve visited a few times to Alnwick and a bit of the surrounding area and we love it, it’s exactly the kind of lifestyle we’re after.
Our lives should improve in every aspect (other than missing family) and this is very exciting for us, especially for my husband who works an 80+ hour week. However, I have started to enquire about primary schools, the one we were expecting to apply to is full and after more research I have begun to have a wobble. I don’t even know where to begin with the schools. When we move my eldest will be going into year 5 and my youngest in to year 2. One of our children is on the autistic spectrum and I worry about them settling in anyway, but today I have been looking up schools and on threads it is mentioned that Alnwick schools are not very good. And this has what’s made me wobble. After years of being opposed (very close with my family) to moving, it finally felt like the right thing to do. But, my biggest worry has always been the kids, as adults we can cope with these thing but it’s the guilt and worry of causing upheaval for them, even if it is for the greater good, as such.
What I’m after is some advice from people who live in the area with school aged children and their thoughts on the schooling and living in that area in general. If it had been other opinions of things I’d experienced first hand I wouldn’t be worried, but this is unfortunately something that we can’t experience until it’s already happening.
We currently live near brighton and my children go to a small village school that they are very happy at, just for reference.
We all loved Alnwick but I’m definitely after some honesty and reassurance.
Thanks in advance!

Would you both earn the same there and if you were to be made redundant, are there plenty of job opportunities?

We regularly make a trip over to Alnwick, love the place, and it has a great ' feel ' .
If you don't already know they have a fab ( and very big ) book shop called Barter Books.
Sorry can't help with schools , but have you lined up jobs in Alnwick or could you look around that area and surroundings ? Morpeth is another nice place with a good vibe.
