Noise in ceiling

I have sharp sounds coming from ceiling areas between floor and ceiling. I had a professional Pest Exterminator come in to check. He sees no evidence of a pest problem. It seem to get bad around 8P.M. and early morning hours.. No activity in attic. Anybody have any idea what is happening?

Rats, or a bird's nest?

christyt114 · 15/08/2021 21:35

Does it sound like a loud crack? Ours does that as the house cools down / warms up. It's the rafters.

Fender697 · 16/08/2021 16:57

Nothing to do with House. It began in February and happens at different times. Usually every evening and early morning hours on a regular basis. I am beginning to have suspicions about electronic devises caused by a Neighbor.

Was already checked. No evidence in attic.

What kind of sharp sounds?

nannynick · 17/08/2021 21:38

As rodent activity has been ruled out, I would suspect wood responding to changes in heat and/or moisture level, or pipes perhaps. What is in the space between?

Electronic devices - the house is bugged? Seems a bit unlikely but I suppose anything is possible but why would an electronic device be making a noise. Some things do make noise though - transformers for low voltage downlights can make a buzzing sound.

Fender697 · 18/08/2021 00:45

A sharp sound. Almost electronic sound. Almost like something You would see in a Science Fiction movie.

My next door Neighbor is a Fireman and may have access to electronic devises. Rodents make scratching sounds. The Pest exterminator is professional and assured Me there was no infestation.

What time is your heating/hot water set to come on and off? It could be caused by hot water flowing through piping that expands slightly due to heat.

If it something “electronic” it would possibly have a lead wired/plugged into the mans rather that powered long-term by battery. Have you been up in the loft or looked closely at the sockets to see if any unexplained wiring?

ApolloandDaphne · 28/08/2021 20:05

My home is full of electric devices and none make a noise. What sort of devices do you think he has?

Fender697 · 29/08/2021 19:13

I have a gas fired water heater. This noise began around February. I am hearing it right now through the day. Do You think Police Departments or Fire Departments have access to electronic annoyance devises? I do not trust My Neighbor who is a Fireman. He may want to drive Me out of My House.

I have the same devises I had prior to this problem. A friend who had an Egyptian medialion gave it to Me and said it would move My Neighbor out. I don't really believe in that sort of thing but I highly doubt a flimsy piece of wood on a chain would cause anything to happen.

It is high pitch in tone. Mosquito alarms are used to disperse crowds loitering around shops - ASBO deterrents. Only audible to younger people due to frequency waves.

EastWestWhosBest · 29/08/2021 19:22

I doubt it’s the fireman

Fender697 · 01/09/2021 01:01

I wonder if My Directv Satellite is causing the noise?

I talked to someone who worked in Heating and Air conditioning. I have a dual thermostat and He thinks that may be causing the noise. Is this possible?

OP posts:
PicardyRose · 05/09/2021 12:04

Much more likely thermostat than neighbour planting espionage devices.

Fender697 · 05/09/2021 18:16

The noise usually comes at certain times. Even when air conditioning and heat are not running

Poltergeist

It has been almost 2 years since I have had to endure these loud, sharp sounds coming from the ceiling of My House. All seasons and different times of day. Comes and goes. I have had pest people and Heating People check it out. I am wondering if a House Inspector can figure it out. I have run out of ideas but I have to figure it out. It has been 2 years and no one has a clue.

What sort of thing would a fireman have access to?

Fender697 · 20/08/2022 16:03

Mosquito Devise

I live in Upstate New York. A Contractor told Me of an insect called a Secada but they are not supposed to be this far North.
