NANNY / NEWBORN - ADVICE PLEASE

I have absolutely no idea if I am just replying to somebodies comment here, or if I am doing what i intend to do which is to start a new thread asking a question... Apologies if it is not the right place for this question but hopefully somebody will see it and be able to offer advice regardless. smile

I am due to give birth to my first baby at the end of August, very excited. I run my own business which is currently very time consuming and even though I will have a member of staff full time for when the baby arrives I am very worried that the business will suffer without me overseeing.

I work from home and am thinking of employing a nanny that comes over to my house 2 mornings a week to look after the little one whilst I catch up on work. I guess I am just wondering if this is realistic? I would plan to have a month off entirely and then the Nanny would start when the baby is a month old.

The baby would be in the same house and the Nanny is somebody I have known a while and trust.

Too many variables: do you intend to breastfeed? How physically/ mentally draining is your work? No way of predicting what kind of baby you will get, could have reflux and colic and keep you awake all night, could be bottle fed and sleep through.

Why ever not? I was a nanny for a month old.. Mum ran her own business too.. I did housekeeping too, Washing, some cooking too.. I took baby to mum and she breastfed whilst on the laptop.. I worked 5 mornings a week from 9-1pm..worked well.. I stayed 3 years and cared for their next child.. (hours increased) good idea if you ask me... Good luck.. (I'd love a newborn to cuddle and walk in the pram!)

Are you asking because you're worried about what other people might think?

I'd say go for it. I've had two terrible sleepers, both breastfed but still would've loved to be able to focus on something that wasn't the baby for a few hours twice a week - if anything it would've helped my mental health. Just have expectations you might end up feeding while working a few times but the baby could get on with other things then take the baby when you're done.

@OnlyFoolsnMothers Thanks for your reply. I do intend to breastfeed. My work is fairly relaxed, and I will be able to leave the office (a room in my house) to be in the same room with the baby / Nanny if needed. I feel like I don't really have much choice other than to find a way to have somebody help out a couple of hours a week so that I can get my head down, but no idea how realistic I'm being... x
