All the Acronyms do take a bit of getting use to, and before the very useful @ thing came about it was just easier to type OP ( Original Post/ Poster ) rather than the full name .

Have you found the Acronyms page ? It will help explain what we are all talking about

It's just friendly and saves typing out their user name or going back to check. You'll get used to it OP! Grin

I don't have a problem with using 'OP', but usually I just bold a name if I want to reply to someone.

Personally, I never use the @ thing because it means people get an email saying you've posted. I turned off that option as soon as it appeared because I don't want emails blocking up my inbox.

I find it weird as my closet friend is a Dominican priest and has the letters OP after his name to stand for the Order of Preachers!

Awww thank you everyone, so when you put op we know you replying to the person who started the chat, & not just who has replied ?!
Thank you.

I'm glad we managed to clear that up for you OP Grin
As you're on new I thought you would like to know a couple of unwritten Mumsnet rules
Any reference to pets must include a photo of said pet.
Any relevance to bad parking must be accompanied by a diagram they don't have to be brilliant but you get more kudos if they are.
House porn threads are nothing to do with pornography
Mumsnet create a wormhole in time you can go to have a quick look at something and 3 hours later you are still reading.

And on a more serious note do not use or ask for people's real names or post any photographs that can identify you or family we like to keep this all anonymous.
