Anyone had abortion while exclusively BF?

Hello. The one time I had sex (condom split) after having my second child I'm pregnant. I have a 4 month old I'm exclusively breast feeding, there is no option for me to have another child so have to terminate but was wondering if anyone still breast fed taking the two pill treatment or will the chemical go through in my milk and effect my daughter?

I'm considering pumping milk but she's not taken a bottle so it's a risk.

Thank you

I'm also worried that with been pregnant my milk will change or taste different and not be as good quality for my baby with the hormones of been pregnant ?

Hi OP, you may get more answers if you move this to the Pregnancy Choices board. Best of luck to you Thanks

Contact Wendy on the fb page drugs in breast milk. She is an expert pharmacist who will be able to give you a definitive answer. Good luck x

I had one last year although I'd left it too late for the pill and had to have the surgical termination instead. But if it's had been a couple of weeks earlier I could've still had the abortion pill and they were aware I was breastfeeding.

The only thing I was advised against taking was the antibiotics they prescribe after the surgical abortion (don't think you take them after the pill). The antibiotics can cause problems in the breastfeeding babies teeth apparently.

@leannekk13 www.bpas.org/abortion-care/abortion-treatments/the-abortion-pill/abortion-pill-up-to-10-weeks/ Taking either pill should be perfectly safe for breastfeeding.

Here is info on painkillers while breastfeeding www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/analgesics/

leannekk13 · 06/05/2020 08:22

Thank you have you had personal experience with it ? Just my little girl won't take to a bottle so can't even express so getting worried

SylvanianFrenemies · 06/05/2020 08:25

@leannekk13 I had a termination for medical reasons when I was still breastfeeding my toddler. I was able to continue without problems.

Peapod29 · 06/05/2020 08:27

Yes I have. The only reason you might want a Bottle as a back up is if you’re feeling to grotty to feed. You may find they take one from someone else if you’re not around and they are hungry enough.

leannekk13 · 06/05/2020 08:40

Ok thank you

leannekk13 · 06/05/2020 16:00

Soo the lady on the phone say some women stop breastfeeding for 2 days due to medication did anyone say this to you made me even more anxious

Peapod29 · 06/05/2020 16:06

No they said it was fine. I double checked with the breastfeeding network. They are the gospel for any drug/breastmilk related questions. I think you can call and email with a specific question for them if you can’t find an answer on the fact sheets.

Ok will give that ok thankyou

Hi I would love to know how you went? I’m in the exact same boat now and I had no idea I couldn’t breastfeed while taking the medication until the pharmacist was handing it to me. I immediately felt overwhelmed and anxious. The idea of not being able to feed my bub to sleep or give her the comfort is killing me. She’s 9 months old so I know she’ll be fine but it is making all this feel so much harder.
Did you breast feed at all while taking the medication?
