Middle Names

Hi, I am pregnant with my first baby and my fiancé and I are discussing whether a middle name is necessary, I don't have one and he has 2, I don't see the need for one unless it has meaning..at this stage we can't even agree on a first name so finding a middle name will be a nightmare, he says it's tradition. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated

I have 2, DH has 1. Both kids have 1. The middle names they have are traditionally used in the family e.g. Elizabeth after my mum and sister, Kenneth after DH's dad and other Male family members

They are less important than people on Mumsnet seem to think. Finding the 'perfect' middle name is all well and good but the vast majority of people will never use them. My five closest friends and I talk every day, they know almost everything about me, warts and all, and I couldn't tell you any of their middle names.

That said, it's a nice way to honour a relative without giving their name as a first name. I have two middle names in this vein and so do my children. The names don't really matter but the people who they were named for get a little kick out of it.
