So i was just wondering if anyone else has had something similar happen to them.
I just had my 2nd son 6 days ago (same Dad as my first) he is black african and i am white. Our 1st was born very light skinned but you could tell he wasnt white, he had straight light brown hair at birth and now (2 years on) he has brown curly hair and is quite abit darker than he was at birth. Our 2nd though is white, he has white blonde hair and blue eyes, so im wondering if he will change colour, im not bothered if he doesnt as he looks just like me but with his Dads nose, I have searched for other babies that have the same colourings but i havent found any with such white blonde hair! Smile

Congratulations on the new LO OP Thanks

I think it might be worth mentioning your concerns when you take baby for its check with the GP.

Don't worry a bit :) Congratulations on the birth of your new baby.

The whole mixing up the gene pool produces surprising results. My DS has a big Afro and a big smile. My DD looks entirely white! Go figure. It's just a thing in mixed race families. DD grumbles a lot about not having 'dark enough' skin. I tell her she is beautiful, which she is!

Yes, my cousin's son is mixed race, White British/Black Caribbean and he has very very fair almost white curly hair, and creamy pale skin. His sister is an exact mix of her mum and dad's skintone. They were both born like that and still look the same now in their teens.

There are mixed-race twins in my son's class, one of whom has very pale skin and blonde hair, the other has dark eyes and dark skin.

Thanks everyone for your replies, i mentioned it to the midwife as i was thinking he could be albino, she assured me hes definately not, just very pale. His hair keeps flicking up at the front so i think it might go curly! I would post a picture but i have no idea how to lol l.

If he's got blue eyes, it's unlikely he could be albino. Albino eyes are red due to lack of pigmentation.

Mixed race children can look very different!

DC1 is quite pale skinned but has African features and hair texture.
DC2 is a bit darker but has European features and hair texture.

They don't look alike at all, one looks just like DH and one looks like ???

My DD's dad is black and our daughter has blue eyes, curly (but not Afro) hair that's dark blonde and her skin is more olive-y than what you would expect of a 'typical mixed race child'. 'Mixed' being the key phrase in describing your child's ethnicity!! Don't worry. Both your kids sound gorgeous Xx

In the words of the, very old, song 'A great big melting pot'!

My third (same dad as first two, afro Caribbean dad) had pale blue eyes and blonde hair and practically white skin. At about age 4 or 5 his eyes turned green and his hair got progressively darker and now he's a very dark brown hair tight curls. His skin is like olive all year round and he tans soon as he touches the sun and is darker in summer, but he's a different brown to my other two by same dad

PillowOfSociety · 03/10/2018 22:15

Single: most people with albinism have blue eyes. Or brown. Some (a few) have pinkish.

Rosskidsmum · 04/10/2018 14:05

My friends kids are like this, her kids both have the same dad, her eldest son is light skin almost white, with bright blue eyes and blonde curly hair, her daughter I suppose is more of a classic mix darker skin dark hair and eyes..

Hello, I am a geneticist and happen to be black and have mixed race babies (with a white european dad). The question you pose is a valid question, I could go on to explain the science behind the probability of gene combination but that would be a bit heavy on this forum. Simply put, your baby is totally normal, and certainly not albinos, and there is no reason for concerns. I would say that if you still feel concerned about your baby's coulor or other of his phenotypes, your best bet is to educate yourself and read on the genetic of mixed race. Your GP and certainly your Midwife would not have covered the subject during their training.

Thanks

I have 3 mixed race children and my third had blonde curly hair and the palest blue eyes. Which is odd as I have dark hair and dark eyes and his father is obviously black. Over time his hair went darker and darker and at about age 4 his eyes turned a gorgeous dark green ( his father has an older son also with green eyes and similar in colourings to him ). My son is lighter more golden in skin colour to my other two by same dad but you can tell he's mixed race. A lot of just shots people start off blonde then go dark. I did and my mum has naturally almost black hair and she was a blonde when she was a pre schooler. Just got darker over time Smile

Sorry not shots lol I meant lots of just white people start off blonde then go dark haired. Typo
