Info about Kirk Merrington, County Durham?

Hi everyone! New to mumsnet :)

I was wondering if anyone lives/has lived in or knows of Kirk Merrington?

Me and my partner have found a house there we love but know nothing of the area apart that from first glance it looks like a neat clean village.

Also looking at gilesgate if anyone has any info.

My nana lived there. My memory is: picturesque setting at the top of a hill, but small and very little in the way of amenities.
