Hello, this is my first post and it's mainly out of moral desperation!
To cut a long story short...my mum and step-father and under 18 sibling have 3 large dogs and 2 cats. No issues with that...our issue is the fact that the dogs and cats use the house as a toilet, including the cellar and the house STINKS. We are becoming concerned for their health because of the ammonia etc etc.
Anyway, my step-sister has a child and my DM used to babysit him at her house one day a week. After a while my sister noticed that ever week nephew was coming home with the awful smell saturated in his clothes, blanket and stuffed animals. My DS raised this with my DM and SF after she couldn't take it any longer and they no longer speak. (Didn't go down well no matter which way she explained it)
My DM tried to address it with me and get me to turn against my DS to which I tried to stay as out of it as possible but did mention my OH had mentioned it if I'd looked after their dogs whilst they're away.
Now they haven't spoken for months and things are getting bitter. My DM keeps posting not so tactful quotes and posts on Facebook aimed at my sister and I can't hack it any longer. DS is sticking to her guns but DM keeps coming up with excuses. The house is not unclean there is just a lingering smell engrained.
I'm not the only one agrees with my DS but after the way they have reacted everyone is scared to address it. All of their friends have allegedly said it doesn't smell and that my sister is just jealous because of my DM relationship with nephew but 1. They rarely visit the house ita usually the pub and 2. Who is going to turn round and say well actually your house does stink of p*?!
Ultimately were just concerned about their health and it's starting to tear the family apart. What would you do?!
