Hi I'm new here. Keen to discuss self-harm in adolescents/young adults and any transgender issues, particularly from the point of view of partners/parents

thisappisrubbish Hiya

I am someone who has experienced self harm for many years and it was at its worst when I was in my teens and 20s. I am not a parent though so only understand my own perspective as a sufferer. I hope you get some support on here though.

Thanks for responding. If you have any insights to offer about what triggered you and why you think you did it, I'd be glad to hear them

No transgender issues but I have been self harming since I was 15 (16 years now) - as a teen I was doing it several times a day and struggled to stop even for a few days. As an adult it became less so that I have had many periods of between a few months and a year where I’ve stopped. I always fall back to it though. My self-harm now is much less frequent but more severe so that I am usually needing stitches afterwards. Happy to talk about it, although I’m not sure I can offer much in the way of advice as obviously it’s a problem I’ve not been able to beat properly.

Sorry, to clarify I have been self-harming for 16 years (am now 31), realised that could be misread to say I am now 16-years-old.
