Moving to Glasgow

Hello everyone. I’m pretty new here and as you can all probably tell. I’m moving to Glasgow from Birmingham. I wondered if anyone knew the better places to live, good schools (I have a 5 years old) and generally any advice. My husband has been offered a contract there for 2 years in the city centre which is almost triple his pay. He wants to go but he’s left the final decision to me. I’m trying to research as much as I can but I would really appreciate hearing from people on ground.
Please put my mind at ease!
Thank you all so much in advance.

Nina

Hi Neno86, I have friends living in Shawlands and Newton Mearns, both south suburbs of Glasgow. NM particularly seems to be very nice, large family houses, good schools, quiet area, good shopping and yet accessible to the city centre. There is no station, buses take 40 mins to city or nearest station Patterton has large car parks, then 20 mins train.

Hi. Thank you so much for your response! We have cars so I don’t think public transport is something we’ll be looking at that often. I definitely check these places out. You’ve been a huge help!

You're welcome. Do try and check out the morning traffic jams/times into the city though. Parking in central Glasgow is much easier and cheaper than London. Schools - be aware there are many more faith schools (particularly Catholic) in Scotland so if you practice a religion you may get priority at some schools.
