My wife has for various reasons lost contact with her father and stepmother, although her ex husband still sees her father along with my stepdaughter. This relationship is becoming more and more concerning my step daughter is 5 yrs old and is picking up on the relationship differences and is starting to ask questions. My wife and I feel the relationship her ex husband has with her father especially involving my stepdaughter is inappropriate and as she gets older will only get worse. Are we right in thinking this relationship will have an emotionally damaging effect if it continues in this manner.
Has anyone had anything similar, any advice?

So answer them! Age appropriate answers obviously.

You haven't given enough informations. All we have so far is that dad speaks to grandpa and mum doesn't. Nothing concerning there. Is there a massive dripfeed coming?

I think you may need to elucidate a little more. You dont say why your wife does not have any contact with her father. Your wife's ex husband has every right to see who he wants , and to take his daughter to see her grandfather if he so chooses. I don't understand why you would object to your step daughter having a relationship with her biological grandfather- unless there's something dreadful which you are not telling us? It's very hard to give advice when you have given so little to go on! I simply can't understand on what you have said why you would find the relationship between your step daughter, her father and her grandfather is inappropriate and why it could be emotionally damaging.
