Hi All

First time mum here so apologies if I sound a bit panicked. Baby boy is 13 days old, bottle fed. For the first week he was pooing pretty much directly after every feed. For the last week he's had a spell of 4 days without going for a poo and now we're on a spell of 2 days since the last one. I spoke to the midwife and health visitor neither seemed concerned and said babies can go up to a week without it being an issue. Baby is clearly unsettled with lots of crying spells, legs being pulled up and also thrashing around.
Have tried cycling the legs, tummy rubs, baths, cooled boiled water but nothing seems to have any impact.
Does anyone have any advice of anything that worked, and do we think it's too soon to speak to my Gp?

You've tried everything they would suggest, I'd probably take him to see the GP x

Easy peasy. Get some Prune juice from the supermarket and freeze into cubes. Take 1 cube and dilute with boiled water from the kettle (about 150ml). Let it cool. Let baby drink as much as they want. You should have a poo by the next day, if not, repeat as needed the next day. I used to give my baby 20ml or more if needed of this solution daily, never had issues with constipation again.

Try lactulose. You can buy it over the counter at the pharmacy.

Add some extra water to the bottled milk. I am a retired GP.

When my DD was a baby (8 years ago now mind!) we were told Cooled boiled water, diluted OJ. But with my DS (he's 1) found Baby massage helped xx

2 days is nothing to worry about. But Google the colic routine for massage and try that to see if you can help him.

I had similar with one of my kids. I was feeding him aptamil. He had awful problems with constipation for the first few weeks but the midwife recommended giving occasional ready made bottles of aptamil and that made him poo. They are expensive but just one feed of that, a big poo, then back to normal powdered stuff again.
