I've only recently joined mumsnet and have to admit that I'm not entirely sure how to use the site, although I've managed to post a few times.

Is there anywhere I can go just to get me started?

The list of acronyms is useful so you know what some of the most common abbreviations are. It's here

Active Conversations is a good place to start because those are the threads that are busy at that time. Chat threads are good to start posting on, they are usually fairly friendly. There's no need to introduce yourself or anything, just dive in and post.

I'd advise not posting in AIBU until you get the feel of the place, it can get quite robust in there to say the least.

There are lots of different areas on the site - look up the Topics list and see what interests you.

Also, if your current username happens to be your real name it might be a good idea to change it for the sake of anonymity.
