Hi everyone my son was offered a place at Hockerill through aptitude test and we are moving from New York to Bishops Stortford. I'm quite nervous about it and still unsure whether we are making the right decision but my son is sooooo excited. My second child is starting Year 4 and will need a primary school seat for him. Any advice? Also, do you know of a book club in BS? Thanks!

I lived just down the road in Sawbridgeworth for years- it was a lovely area to grow up. Do you know which part of BS you are moving to? It's quite a big area.

Sigh we live in Stortford, would have loved a place for my son at hockerill ... it's a good school but I wouldn't relocate from New York for it.
Anyhow, at primary northgate and summercroft both have good reputations. Manor Fields was outstanding, then had some probs with the head, but seems to be improving again. The school most likely to have spaces is windhill, which has a mixed reputation and is the most multicultural of Stortford schools.
Housing options will depend on whether it is important to you to be within walking distance of the station and budget ...

Hi Fuezes,
Thought I'd say hi as we are also moving house to start at Hockerill in September! Though we are a bit nearer than you, but too far to get to daily. We are still house hunting so don't know where we are going yet (villages around BS).

Because of this we had to give up trying to look for a primary place for our younger daughter (also going into year 4) and had to take a place in a small local prep until she goes to Hockerill. If you look on the Herts district council there is a list of available places in the Bishops S primaries. Many however a full and of course the fact that they are feeder schools for the BS schools makes them more popular. I have an idea there is a parents book club at Hockerill ?
Good luck . Like you I am hoping it will be a good fit for my eldest.

Hi river1 and everyone

Thanks for all the messages.

In the meantime we have found and put in an offer for a house on Grange Rd. Fingers crossed we can move in by the end of August. It still leaves us with the issue of my other son starting year 4. We visited a number of schools (loved Windhill) but they are all full. I don't know what's going to happen - but they have to give him an education! Anybody who has been in the same situation? In NY if you are zoned they have to take you.

What house is your son/daughter river1? My son is in Brunel.
