How do I update my chat name

I tried to update my name for talk but everything I put (even very unique things) didn't work. Does anyone know how I can change this. Don't want to be stuck as user .

If you use the app it's really easy as it tells you straight away if your choice is available or not.

It sounds to me as if you are doing it right, but they just aren't available.

Testing...I think it's worked now.
