Hi there, I am new I am really looking for some advice for my son who is very slow walking and talking his 20 months and is always getting chest infections and I am wondering if this is the reason for the development delays as he seems to come on with speech when he is on there steroids he crawls cruises and can say oh ya all gone mamma dadda and that's it.
I wonder is it asthma antibiotics do nothing his 20 months any advice would be fantastic.

Have you spoken to your health visitor about your concern? I think that could be a good place to start. Has he had a recent health visitor assessment?

Hi thanks for your response yes I pushed for an early assessment they said his gross motor skills which is in connection with walking is behind they said boys are very slow to talk so they're will see him at Xmas again. I asked about the sickness and they just said it probably is slowing him down but never discussed chest x-rays or asthma just yes maybe that's it but his sick again now and I've asked for an x-ray but I am just winging it I have no idea what's going on. 😨

Did anyone with a toddler with asthma have similar delays until diagnosed.I feel I am having to push for answers all the time and I'm worn out any help would be great. There is a huge discounts from the steroids this morning his babbling away playing cars trying to say words.

Perhaps he feels better when he has had his steroids, maybe finding it easier to breathe, and that then means he feels more like babbling. As far as I recall, they're supposed to have around 50 words by 2 years old, so your DS doesn't sound like he's too far behind with speech.

Where I am, there are speech therapy drop in sessions at the local family centre - is there anything similar near you? I wouldn't accept that "boys can be slower" with picking up speech, as it's a bit of a myth. Has his hearing been checked recently?

He doesn't have Fifty words online about five or six words only. I am in Ireland so you have to wait for a referral or go private but the Dr that saw him wants to wait till his two to see if his walking and talking she says at two they all should be around the same place then she will refer him. It's just frustrating because I don't know if it's because his sick with chest infection or neurological his a very happy easy going baby very smiley.Thanks for your help
