Hello all, Maybe I shouldn't start bitching straight away but I'm going to anyway. My wife and I have 2 little boys at home and older children from previous marriages. I could fill a page with issues but my current one is my wife undermining me with the children. We have different ways of parenting, put simply I tend to be pro-active she is re-active. I'm pretty sure this is difference in style/approach is the cause of her undermining me with the children. Before we had the boys we would watch "supernanny" type programs and seemed to agree on almost everything, this filled me with confidence. Now I find that my confidence was misplaced. Any thoughts on this, especially "new" ones would appreciated.

Do you do most of the childcare?

Because if she's just swanning in sometimes, not knowing/finding out how things are done, and expecting her way to be respected immediately and without discussion, then yes I can see there is a problem.

"Before we had the boys we would watch "supernanny" type programs and seemed to agree on almost everything, this filled me with confidence."

What you think before the DC actually arrive bears no relation to what life it like with them.

If your confidence depends on what you've seen on the television, that sounds unusually flimsy. Has this had a negative impact in any other aspects of your life?

I may have given the wrong impression about "supernanny" programs. Both my wife and I have grown up children and considerable life experience. The programs in question were not being used as tutorials. However many of the issues raised were discussed by my wife and I and we seemed to be singing of the same hymn sheet. I was confident that we were broadly in agreement. This turns out not to be the case.

Well pretty ancient. I remember Rolling Stones without wrinkles.
