I just saw this game over on Wrong Planet and thought it might be fun on here. You just write "you might be autistic/ADHD if.." and then write some funny anecdote about your traits.
I'll start

You might be autistic if as a child you spent a whole day cleaning every copper coin out of the big whisky bottle at home with Brasso, just to make them shine.

You might be autistic if you thought reading the phone book was fun, and the Yellow Pages was even more exciting!

You may have ADHD if oh look a squirrel!!! A plane!! A train! A strangely shaped cloud! What was I saying again? Oh yes.

You might have autism if you like to sort skittles into different colours and eat them in a certain order.

You might have autism if you discover how soothing it is to make spinning toys out of your ds's k'nex and wish you'd had Lego as a child.

You might be autistic if you feel like a playground full of infant children in windy weather (due to the news)

You might also be autistic if you are calmed significantly by reading about sorting skittles as the thought makes you happy.

Never knew this was an ASD thing! Why bother to change clothes at night?Makes no sense to me...

We have indoor "clean" clothes and outdoor "dirty" clothes. Take off the outdoor ones as soon as we get home. And shower/ wash.

I think lots of NT people wear uncomfortable clothes though, so it would make sense to take them off. Mine are mainly leggings with a soft tunic/dress/t-shirt over them and I wear a molke bra which is basically a crop top.

You might have ADHD if you start off mowing the lawn in stripes but then mow randomly according to which bit of grass catches your eye first.

DinosaurOfFire · 07/07/2022 14:28

You might be autistic if you go around the supermarket in the same aisle order even when you don't need to visit the toy/ book/ fresh veg etc one today and only needed a couple of things. You might also have adhd if you then forget the things you went in for because you got distracted by something in one of the other aisles and picked that up instead.

The skittles one, I also felt great joy just reading about it. Categorising skittles/ mini eggs/ etc before you eat them is all part of the joy of eating chocolate for me!

I do the supermarket thing too!

You may have autism if you Google and scrutinise the menus of every available restaurant, pub or café in the place where you are going to ensure they have something that you can eat. When you get there and they have run out or changed the menu from that online you'd rather go without than eat something different and at best will settle for chips.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/07/2022 21:31

ouch that sounds tough. AW At least brits love chips so they are fairly common.

You might be autistic if you need a few days to recover from a medical appointment, but because you have kids you never get the chance to recover so you are constantly in a state of burnout, just surviving doing the bare minimum 😥

You might be autistic if you have indoor sunglasses. Darker ones for outside and ones with a greyer lense for inside.

ermmm... took mer a week to recover from and appointment recently both physically due to the hypermobility, socially/routine (asd) and emotionally due to the findings. (not these two conditions but... you do have really low blood pressure quiet whispering of staff is never a good sign )

Trivester · 08/07/2022 16:33

You might have adhd if your regular as clockwork period comes as a complete surprise every month.

Trivester · 08/07/2022 18:35

You might have adhd if you get irritated that you can’t listen to your podcasts at more than x2 speed and your listen next queue is well into double digits.

You might be autistic if your most dreaded words at school were "find a partner" then either being put into a "3" or being partners with the teacher 😫

I used to dread this. I would be "sick" every Thursday when I had a lesson with no friends in it!
Nobody ever wanted to partner up with me... amazingly my parents didn't clock on. My attendance was awful.

11Hawkins · 08/07/2022 21:11

You may be autistic if you have a meltdown before having to call someone.

Also you may be autistic if you like watching the same tv programmes/films on repeat even though you know exactly what will happen next.

Boatofmyown · 09/07/2022 08:19

You might have adhd if you have over 27000 unread emails in your inbox. Mostly from companies you took a brief interest in and then forgot about. And never got round to unsubscribing.

Trivester · 09/07/2022 09:08

ofwarren · 09/07/2022 15:28

You might be autistic if you are 42 and subscribe to accounts on YouTube that play with slime and with squishy toys.

You might be autistic if .....................

you have to eat meals from certain plates/bowls and some of your food tastes of colours

FMLpassthegin · 13/07/2022 20:55

If you find yourself washing the same laundry five times because you never remember to take it out of the machine. You have to own at least five pairs of specs because you lose them ALL the time. You find yourself sitting at home looking for something to do unawares you are double booked to attend different events and have forgotten to go to either. You have meds to help but cannot coordinate the fetching of a glass of water to accompany the pill without getting distracted - that's IF you remember you need to take them. Once you have you forget and spend the rest of the day unsure. Your post remains unopened and unattended to forever.
Or If like me you respond to this thread with may too many answers ....

TrailOfAbandonedPlanners · 14/07/2022 22:51

@FMLpassthegin and, if you manage to bung it in the dryer (possibly even hang some up) it may stay there for a very long time. And be worn again without making it to a wardrobe.

I have been contemplating just putting all the clothes storage in the utility room. But then I realise I’m not going to reliably fold it and put it away even then. I’m just going to continue to be overwhelmed by laundry.

I find laundry really oppressive. That and kitchen cleaning. It’s always there. And even if you clear it, there’s more to do in about a minute.

I have seen that as an actual serious tip. Have a dirty laundry basket, and a clean laundry basket where your clothes are stored.

If more than one person in the house, each have their own dirty laundry basket so you don't have to sort clothes by person.

It would mean needing to have clothes which can be washed together, and which can do without ironing/ folding/ hanging, but that can be worth it!

Trivester · 16/07/2022 04:34

Nothing wrong with storing your clothes on drying racks. Stick a mirror in the utility room and you have a walk in wardrobe/dressing room.

Our homes aren’t intelligently designed around modern life, but the offshoot of houses designed with cheap (mainly female) labour, so there’s nothing wrong with eliminating the unnecessary extra steps

ofwarren · 16/07/2022 17:27

You might be autistic if you get really upset when your dh tells you that the copyright on lots of Disney characters ends over the next year or so, meaning that other people can use them in films and change what they look like.
Honestly, I'm devastated. I almost had a panic attack.

You may have ADHD if you cannot help but burn food because you get bored whilst it's cooking and ignore the oven alarm...

And me! I even forget that I've started cooking something. I am totally reliant on alarms for everything!
