What kind of clothing do you wear?

ofwarren · 21/01/2022 10:17

I have huge sensory issues where clothing is concerned, especially shoes. I hate wearing shoes so much. I hate shoes that I can feel on my feet so my go to shoe is Crocs in dry weather and wellies in wet.

I don't like my skin being exposed to air and need compression so I wear leggings or tights all of the time, even in bed. On top I wear dresses that are usually knee length and have long sleeves. I HATE waistbands.

I'm a fan of colour so my clothing is bright, rainbow and patterned. Clashing at times, but I don't really care. I'm comfortable and I like what they look like.

Skinny jeans or leggings, tight t-shirts and hoodie or very soft jumper. Nothing tight on my neck. Socks with shoes always and generally dms or skechers trainers. Pants that fit my arse and don't get eaten. I have to be comfortable or I can't function properly.

I also have run and fly dresses to wear with leggings. Tights feel weird on my feet.

Svara · 21/01/2022 16:24

I only wear high waisted straight leg 100% cotton jeans now. I like to feel secure around the waist but don't like fabric clinging to my legs. I wear 100% cotton tshirts or long sleeved tops with a hoodie or a lightweight puffa jacket. I prefer barefoot shoes but can wear my Solovair boots. I just can't wear shoes that squash my toes or shoes with a heel (no 'women's' shoes).

Tdcp · 21/01/2022 16:57

AutisticLegoLover oh bless you! It really is a horrible feeling when I can't wiggle my toes or they feel hemmed in! Have you tried clogs? I'm yet to try them but apparently they're quite roomy..

Ps get the dungarees! You'll look great!

Tdcp · 21/01/2022 16:57

Not clogs.. Crocs I meant 🤦

I can confirm, crocs are the widest shoes I've ever worn.

Another here who would love to be able to wear jewellery without getting royally pissed off with it.

I used to try and look fashionable but post children as long as it's clean comfy and a desirable colour/s it's all good. I never felt comfortable and when I looked in the mirror I'd think it was somebody else looking back.

I almost feel comfortable enough here to admit to sleeping in my day clothes. I do get upset if I don't manage to change them before going out on the second day and will occasionally wear pyjamas if Ive had a Shower late in the day or am staying home Ill.

Also tend to wear one pair of shoes to death as well. I like to be colour coordinated (to me at least), so that would be my only motivation for buying more if I had the money, that and athlete's foot anyway.

@blibblabblob I've just ordered my first Molke. I've been getting pain in my ribs where the underwire digs in when I'm slouching. Hopefully I'll feel much better in the Molke.

Lush tee for toes talc is excellent. Cured my athlete's foot.

LilyRed · 21/01/2022 23:56

I seem to have worn the same type of clothes throughout my life - I was so happy when elastane and lycra started to be used in fabrics - at last, stretchy clothes!

I prefer cotton as artificial fibres are just too sweaty, so Big pants & wireless bra /wire-free bra?

Leggings or M&S jogging pants in cotton/lycra - I only wear jeans or trousers out or gardening and change when I get in as I feel to constricted!

Long sleeve t-shirts (I can't do polo-necks as I have always felt strangled in them unless they are very loose or floppy), tunics and then layered woollens (preferably not on my skin as too itchy.

I don't often wear skirts now as my legs get oedema (thanks epilepsy tablets, one of the myriad of side effects) and my feet are now between 4E and 6E width size so I love my garden clogs, super-wide slipper clogs (Easy-B's - the eldest called them old-lady shoes) and, well, my other clogs (I recommend The mule company if you are not veggie or vegan).

I seem to wear an ancient coat the most now, but for warmth and when we had to queue at shops because of covid, I got a floofy long down jobby.

I wear my clothes to pieces! Oh and I could and do sleep in most of my clothes Grin

Sciencebod · 22/01/2022 08:32

Urgh I need some new clothes and don’t know wear to start. I have been wearing jersey dresses and leggings but sea salt is so expensive and other places seem to put wool/seams/tight waistbands etc It feels so expensive as I can’t just go to Primark and buy a pair of skinny jeans ( the work of the devil) and t shirt (never had one from Primark that didn’t have rough seams or twisted seams!)

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 22/01/2022 08:57

I usually buy Sainsburys clothing as it's affordable and the quality is usually okay. I love Seasalt stuff, but can't really afford it now.

RunningInTheWind · 22/01/2022 11:19

I feel best in a Kim kardashian style Lycra bodysuit. Sadly I’m not built for such clothing. Grin I like very fitted or voluminous - so tend to combine the both. Sleeves must be wrist length, neck must be covered (but not tightly) and pants must be large enough to sail the titanic into port.

LilyRed · 22/01/2022 12:57

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation Sainsbury's stuff is good - more so affordable, their jeans and cords vary widely in size though.

I wait for the Seasalt sales and it seems they must have overstocked as an awful lot of their goods now appear on eBay. I love the tunics and smocks. I have a planthunter coat which is better for walks and dog walking on the beach than the floofy thing, that was DPs
Christmas gift to me a couple of years ago. I would like some
dungarees though!

@RunningInTheWind erm, I do have a big sticky out Kim Kardashian arse, which is a bloody nuisance as I'm generous of girth these days; it makes everything except wide fit jeans and palazzo pants look huge on me.

When I knit jumpers and cardigans I have to add short-row shaping to accommodate boobs and arse or my waist gets lost

Salaro · 22/01/2022 17:36

I basically only wear basketball shorts, tshirts I bought many, years ago and lovely worn in soft hoodies! I am very tempted by some of the dungarees I've seen on a couple of threads but I worry about them being irritating. Barefoot inside, crocs when I take the bin out etc

I am the height of fashion clearly Grin

broccolibush · 23/01/2022 11:35

Another one who Iives in dungarees now. Both Lucy & Yak and Run and Fly. L&Y were really good with me when they sent a pair with a rough patch on the inside that I thought would wash out and didn’t - they replaced them with no issue. They’ve really helped me with my hatred of binding waistbands.

Also soft cup bras - m&s DD+ bralettes at the moment. They’re not perfect but so much better than wired bras for me.

I also cut the labels out of everything. I hate scratchy labels bothering me. They seem to be made of barbed wire or cactus or similar.

I hate sock seams so always wear them inside out. I think sock seams are stupid. Why anyone would want a seam poking their toe?

I prefer to be barefoot but have crap feet so have to wear something to cushion and support them. Currently in giesswein slippers or trainers. But the laces on the trainers have to be just right. It can take an age to get the pressure right and I often have to stop and retie them when out.

OliviaBond · 23/01/2022 11:54

I live in jeggings, sleeveless tops and a hoody/cardi with converse in summer and flat cosy boots in winter. I can't stand anything round my neck, T-shirts with sleeves and jumpers annoy me although I don't really know why. I do like dresses but am picky. Prefer jersey ones, again sleeveless. I also wear leggings or joggers if I'm just at home, or just stay in my pjs!

AffIt · 23/01/2022 12:34

I like a compression underlayer, so normally leggings and a sports bra and vest top or slim fit t shirt, with a hoody and gilet or short dress on top.

I have quite an eclectic style, which I describe as 'CBBC presenter meets 1990s secondary school art teacher' - I like colours, stripes and patterns. Bought a yellow anorak last week which brings me an immense amount of joy ATM.

Fortunately, I work from home, so I can pretty much do what I like. Grin

ofwarren · 23/01/2022 12:39

I was looking at yellow anoraks the other day!
The amount of times I've seen clothes that I've liked online and clicked on them, only to find they are children's clothes 🙈

Do it! I bought mine from Mountain Warehouse and I love it - it's also soft and close-fitting, both of which are essential components.

I know what you mean about kids' clothes - I was looking at a pair of space cat leggings recently, and was annoyed to find sizes stopped at age 14. I want space cat leggings, and I'm a proper adult with my own money to buy them! Grin

Does anyone know if run and fly dungarees would fit a 6ft tall one? They have dinosaur ones and I need them 😂

Svara · 23/01/2022 17:36

I wouldn't know what size to get if I bought dungarees, I'm a 6 on bottom, 10 top!

On their website, it says they will fit up to 6'3" without turnups?

I am currently in the process of ordering the leopard print ones. Grin

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 23/01/2022 18:11

Leggings and long-sleeves go on under my work trousers and short work tunic.

Weekends it's leggings a long top/dress. Tea dresses, pj's,

I’d go for ones that fit your bum tbh - the top of dungarees being open(ish) means they’re a bit more accommodating of bigger top halves than bottom halves.

I’m a 10/12 all over, and possibly a little bottom heavy, and wear XXS from run and fly and 10 from Lucy and Yak. With a smaller arse I think these would drown me.
