Advice on a suitable new baby gift for a Muslim family

I hope you don't mind me posting here. My elderly dad would like to buy a gift for his gardener and his wife to celebrate the birth of their first baby in a few weeks. The gardener is a lovely man and has been very good to my dad.

Both the gardener and his wife are Muslim. We are thinking along the lines of a nice little outfit and a cuddly toy, but don't want to buy anything that might be culturally inappropriate. I'm aware of no pig motifs etc but is there anything else that we should avoid? My dad plans to give some extra cash when the baby is born as well, but would like to give a physical gift of some sort if appropriate.

I'm aware that I am probably overthinking this, and I know that that they will probably be grateful for the thought no matter what we buy, but I would rather not get anything that might inadvertently miss the mark.

Thanks in advance for any advice that you may be able to offer.

Hi,

You can't really go wrong with clothes! As long as they are season appropriate for the age of the baby, i.e. if the baby is born in summer, any 0-3 month clothes should be cooler and any 3-6 clothes should be warmer (as an FTM, I found this really annoying!)

Nothing to do with being Muslim though - I am sure they will appreciate the gesture 😊

Some people prefer to avoid baby clothing with human or animal depictions. Safer to just go for stripes or other patterns. Personally I wouldn't have been outraged by a Peppa Pig onesie 😄

Thank you both for your thoughts. Point noted regarding any clothes being season appropriate, though I agree that this will have more to do with the baby being human than being Muslim!

Helpful steer about avoiding all animal depictions as I wouldn't necessarily have thought of that. I do appreciate that there is obviously a spectrum of views on this,, and that some people wouldn't bat an eyelid at Peppa Pig, but I don't know this couple at all so would rather play it safe. So stripes or patterns it will be!

Agree play it safe stay away from animals or images of people. Morrisons and Matalan do some lovely plain putfits that are super cute.
