High Street Shops for Modest Clothing

Salam, I have just got a job for the first time since I had my daughter. My old work wardrobe no longer fits, so I’ll need some new English style clothes. I want to be able to try them on, so will be going to high street stores. Where is good at the moment for modest clothing? Wide leg trousers, long dresses/skirts/long sleeve tops? It’s been so long since I bought new clothes that I’m out of touch. I’m in the UK. JK.

Hello @LavenderFieldds, I found your post after searching high street modest clothing.

John Lewis stocks Aab, a modest clothing line which has some beautiful maxi dresses. I'm actually Jewish, but dress along similar lines as my Muslim sisters and tend to find high st maxi dresses don't often have the combination of length, long sleeves and high neckline that I'm looking for.

Next, Debenhams and M&S all have modest edits - I like to search online to see what they have and try on in store. Long, wide leg trousers seem to be 'in' at the moment, so there's lots of choice.

Many congratulations on your daughter and your new job!

@Namechangeoften thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I am a recent revert and am still amazed at the kindness of the sisterhood - I’m so happy to find a solidarity in the Jewish sisterhood too.

Thank you @MixedBananas . I live in a very remote area of the country and am
literally the only Muslim in the town. I’m also a revert, so people are used to seeing me in Western clothing. I will move to an abaya one day, I love them when I am in a city or somewhere I am anonymous, but I’m not confident enough yet to wear an abaya in my home town. It’s a small farming community in Wales and they’re not the most open minded. InshaAllah my strength will grow and I will care less what other people think.
