That's disgusting. I'd hope that's the percentage of DM readers and not the general population. I'm so sorry.

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 06/08/2024 22:51

Well if we're hoping for anything, obviously it's that it's not true rather than % of DM readers.

Thevelvelletes · 06/08/2024 22:56

Don't believe that for one minute.
The majority of people have empathy for others regardless of race.
Families being terrorised will have struck a chord with many.
The minority don't speak for the majority.

I hope that stat isn’t true. 😞
Sometimes statistics are manipulated to push an agenda or create a sensation. I hope that’s the case.

I’m not Muslim, but I have been very impressed by the response of mosques and British Muslims to this mindless disorder and violence. So much dignity and character! Such a stark difference to the thugs destroying everything.

I read that article and was equally depressed but just to clarify - from what i understand one in three are supporting the protests but only 12% (I think) are supporting the unrest, which I think means the violence. So if I've understood correctly, 1 in 3 would support peaceful protests about immigration levels and 88% are against the violence being used.
Still not great figures I know, it should 100% against the unrest/violence. But it's better than thinking 33% support the violence. This isn't the case.

Newsenmum · 06/08/2024 23:05

1 in 3 seems very unlikely op. For a lot of the protests (such as in Bristol) there were as many if not more people on the counter protest.

I wouldn’t believe what the daily fail says as it likes to overdramatise.

DM aren’t known for their investigative journalism, I’d rather go with the idea that they asked their racist friends.

I'm inclined to think the same. Wouldn't trust a word that came out of that rag.

I suspect it's the DM looking to inflict further distress on us all at a time when we're already feeling vulnerable.

That definitely isn't reflected in the people I meet. Most people I've met have been appalled by what's happening and very keen to help our communities.
